Had to hook up the enclosed trailer yesterday to my truck, pretty hot out here about 90. Running the air with the trailer the temp gauge was setting a tad over 210F. Not where I like to see it, shut off the AC & cranked on the heat, it came down to normal 190ish.

WTF? I NEVER had any issues pulling this 4500lb trailer with my old faithful 7.3 NA 1990 F250 & that motor was tired with over 330K on the clock. AC on or off OD on or off...

I'm loosing faith quickly that these 6.5's were ever designed to do any more then pick up groceries. :skep:

Prolly the fan clutch needs to be replaced, friggin BS ok my rant is now turned off!

95=poor cooling system
I know how you feel and I agree that these are not ideal tow vehicles but there are improvements that can be done o make it more manageable.
I'm gonna over simplify this because detailed info is available with a search but the 99+ waterpump flows and balances alot better.
The 98+ has a 9 blade fan vs the 6 blade on a 95.
The clutch comes on too late stock, look up the fan clutch mod.
Exhaust...a choking point. Upgrading to 4 inch and losing the cat/soot trap is a major improvement. Leroy was blowing out Diamond eyes for 300$. I bought two and aside from minor mod to one of the supplied hangers it was a sick deal.
Clean the rad/condensor/cooler. Just pull the top shroud and look down in there. You'd be surprised how much crap is stuck between the condensor and the rad. In fact I just pulled my Burb apart yesterday and cleaned it and did the fan clutch mod. waiting for the snot to dry so I can test it tomorrow.
If your gonna upgrade the WP and fan clutch Heath's kit is the way to go. By the time you buy decent parts, you can get the whole kit form him for the same price.
Thermostat...Has to be GM Factory, nothing else on a 95.
And after all that it will still run hot if you push it hard but if you drive it sensibly, it's manageable.
I know from your sig you already got a DE Exhaust but I threw that in anyway for anyone else who might read it.

Thanks the exhaust is 4" DE already. The radiator is spick & span clean with a new AC 190 delco stat & K47 air box & it's got a multi chip tow economy & performance tune with brand new injectors.

The water pump & clutch I have not touched...& I might stop throwing money into a burning pit.

I might sell this SOB & look for a clean 7.3. Why do we fight this? I love my truck but all this work & money for what a stock 7.3 can deliver out of the gate? It just ain't adding up to me...:nonod:

Great truck if all I use it for is to go to get groceries...

I hear ya....Just missed an '02 Excursion for 13k with a 7.3. Fine towing rig for sure. Find a 9 blade fan at the junky and do the fan clutch mod. That may help. Sig didn't say but you running a TM with the tune ??

I was there, did the requisite mods and brought my '95 into compliance. You sound like an instant gratification type who hates putting in any effort. Buy a Ford.

I know I did Heath's cooling upgrade on my 95 Tahoe and 4 inch ex and it made a nice difference. Truck towed fine. As soon as I put the chip in and TM the egts went through the roof and so did the temps. Coincidence ?? I want to see next trip how my Burb tows with a good douche, 4 inch ex and fan clutch mod, nothing else.

I did all the requisite and they didn't help much. In fact as I stated in previous post some helped, some hurt. Most people on here are quick to squawk with only owning one 6.5. I have owned a few in all different configurations and I am seeing a definite pattern.

Ahhh I've got 2 words for U Big T & they ain't Happy Birthday

READ the POST closely I love the truck, here let me list out what I have done so FAR! Instant gratification you got to be kidding me!
Injectors
Chip
DE exhaust
K 47
new AC compressor
New brakes & lines
Alternator
Vac pump & Vac lines
Cleaned radiator new AC stat
New surp belt
New GP's
New Batteries & cables
New rotors drums
Swap intake manifold to delete EGR

Yea I prolly missed few things & yes you pissed me off with that statement.

The problems with the fan clutch started when they were new. They were way too late to engage,so they were playing catch-up once they finally did engage.Add 16 years and how many miles and you have a clutch that is dead weight. The oe fan was margainal also. The 9 blade steel fans can be had from the junkyard for $20 or so. With the big fan and a new modded clutch you should have no problem towing that much even in 90 plus temps. A 97 ho water pump would be a bonus.

Well said.

I know that there are many Ford haters on the site, just so happens that I also was a Ford hater...but being as though I also owned that ole 7.3 & have something that I can compare this 6.5 too. The 6.5 stock leaves alot to be desired. Yea we can fix em but my point is, I never had to upgrade any cooling components on my Ford, NOTHING NUTTA not one single thing. Sorry but facts are facts & that's just the way it is like it or not for the Ford haters.

Sorry but that's the facts!

So cranky69 tell us how you really feel.

Just kidding, I feel/felt your pain. I thought I got a sweet deal on my burb,1.500.00 until I started to tow with it.

Just a short list of my upgrades, DE exhaust, custom tune by the man {buddy} dmax fan, new fan clutch, rad, injs. and glow plugs, alt. power steering pump,ac comp.,reciever dryer, orifice tube and expansion vavle, new line that holds said orifice tube, starter,on my second POS dorman outer balancer, new pmd with lifetime warranty from ORIELLYS, egt, trans and boost gauges to monitor all these mods from, instead of driving by the temp gauge and the big ticket item 1.900.00 on the optimizer from ted's. Now all I need is a new glow/controller, hydro boost, started leaking. A new front end ,started wandering, A new ATT. gm8 won't cut it when I get the heavier trailer in the spring. Oh yea I have two new batts and four tires. OH yea why not throw a little water/meth inj. at it for good measure. I could go on and on my friend, The only thing I would consider is an excursion with the 7.3turbo because this burb is so damn useful for camping and towing the family and camper. But keep in mind I run mine balls to the wall towing hills at 70 and above and 8% grades are not a problem if I drive by the egt gauge. I figure I have atleast 5/6 grand in it,

Will I ever sell the burb? No. I can't replace it even with the money I have in it now and get anything that will tow like it for under 10 grand.

I hope my rant has helped you calm down a little you ford lovin fool. HA HA

Oh yea, I forgot the 99 HO water pump.

I think something is to be said for the late 99/2000 cooling system. my clutch never seemed to kick in, but I was loaded to 15K total and made it across Wyoming without issue, and then switched trailers, loaded to 20K combo we went to central california, pulled donner at 40 degrees, so that helped, but it still would hold below 210 on the flat.

havent pulled the radiator yet for cleaning, but it needs it if I am going to pull in summer, rather than spring. got as high as 85 on the spring trip.
