What does that valve look like? Maybe a weak spring, messed up rocker arm, push rod, etc.? Could be when they rebuilt it before they messed up and broke a button, pulled it apart, and fixed what was wrong under the valve cover, leaving this valve kiss.
It's possible by being 1 tooth off all 8 hit. The valves and pistons have carbon on them and no impact signs. So maybe a cheap way to go to 18:1? Last 6.5 valve contact episode I had was valves hit at an angle from a 1/4 worm clamp in the intake being eaten.
Note these Silvolite brand pistons are NOT coated.
I wonder if the pistons are taller being as they are aftermarket?
Im trying to remember the guy here that posted his build. He's down here in south TX and collects small engines as a hobby. Also was it Nate that had the same marks on his pistons? (not as bad though).
Just remembered you had strange wear on the valve stems, this could be from the piston beating the valve back home? How do the rockers look on the wear side?
Little more progress.
Replacing the door seals with used ones off the totaled 1993. Removed seat for recovering or used replacement. Removed floor to clean mud out and dry it out. Glad the shop vac is measured in gallons! Trays by the doors were full and then some. Should smell better after that. Removed blower motor to oil it up and clean evaporator.
Some parts arrived. Waiting on Gapless rings and some other parts now from Leroy. Saved enough on RockAuto to afford a gapless upgrade. First time in over 20 years I bought 6.5 head bolts - usually get studs.
I have never seen rings so far gone! The rails on the oil control rings for some cylinders are worn completely away. Genuine diesel wash down situation. Note the background and above/prior posted piston have something left of the oil control rails.
