1500HD vs 2500?

My '99 2500LD ECLB 6.0 4.10 rear end averaged 14mpg on the highway at 65-70mph. I got 18 once running 55mph on a flat road, that was a freak of nature though.

Frankly I was a tad disappointed because the truck it replaced, '84 K20, RCLB, 3 speed handshaker, 5.7, 3.42 rear end, could consistently get 16-17mpg on the highway. Running empty of course. I had hoped the newer technology and an overdrive on the '99 would have made better mpg.

My dad has an '06 1500 ECSB with 5.3. I don't remember the axle ratio, 3.73 I think. It's NOT 4.10, I know that for sure. He gets about 17mpg.

I could count on 14-15 highway MPG on most days with the 6.0. A 5.3 realistically could get you 16-17 hwy.

What kind of axle ratio do you have? I wonder if that is the difference that I am hearing. Talked with a guy the other day that said on a 6 hour trip averaging low 70s mph he got 18mpg on his 6.0. But, he usually got 15-16 mixed driving.

I know that I drove an 05 3500 SRW with a 6.0L for awhile and it got consistent 14 MPG running 70-72 on interstate. Get it up to 75 and it dropped down to 12-13. MOST 6.0L's will have the 4.10 gears as it is a high revving engine, but the 1500HD got 3.73's for the most part. Another thing to keep in mind with the 6.0L is the early models have iron heads on them and are unique. It isn't an issue really, but they are different from all other 6.0L's.

Both were 3.73. The '00 6.0 was the forerunner of the '01 (first year) 2500HD. It was the 8600GVW unit and the Monrony sticker even said 2500 heavy duty.

My '99 was the same way. Listed as "heavy duty" on the widow sticker. I believe they were still basing off the previous generation of 8,600 considered heavy duty and 7,200 light duty.

Is real gas mileage on 2003 1500HD different from a 2005 2500HD? Both with 6.0 CCSB. 1500 is geared 373 and 2500 is 410. My problem is that I can't get the guy with the 1500HD to reply so I am now looking at a 2005 2500HD CCSB, 4x4, w/ 110k miles. She says it gets 16-18 on the hwy which tells me that she has probably never checked it.

For all intense purposes the only difference between those two is the axle ratio. Yes, a 2500HD will be a little heavier because of the bigger frame but not so much that it would drastically change mpg.

I would find it very hard to believe a 6.0 w/ 4:10 on any configured pickup could get 18 mph doing 65mph. It's just revving the engine too much at those speeds with that axle. 15mpg tops, unless you set the cruise at 50 mph, nothing in the bed, and flat ground.

12.5-13 would be more in line. Yes you could pull off 15 on an all highway trip but not mixed. 18? No way.

From what I remember it runs close to 2500 rpm at 70.

How good is that quadrasteer stuff? I have only seen it in person on the old Honda Preludes and it scared me. I was worried about future problems with the system.

I have a QuadraSteer, 2003 CCSB 4x4 6.0. Its a great truck, steering system is awesome!
Im actualy going to sell it and my 96 CCLB 6.5

I saw 17 running 65 out of a 3500SRW with a 6.0L before, but that was a fluke as most tanks it got 14 or so on the highway. The 6.0L is a high revving engine and doesn't mind them much, but the truck they come in is heavy so the milage will be down a bit with them. 1500's with the 5.3L will get 18, but I wouldn't expect it from a 6.0L truck.

my cousin has a 1500 with the quadrasteer and about 200k miles (he bought it new), contractor with a roofing company. Hasnt had any issues with the steering, thing turns on a dime as well

I thought you sold that a while ago. I was looking at QS's for a while, but I have no money, so that's an issue. How many miles? $13k is a great price if it's lower miles...

I don't remember 100% I think 202K (ish) about avg?
I though about converting to propane like my Titan.
