    Vin F eprom

Sorry guys I may have posted this in the wrong place. Don’t fire the new guy yet. I’ll do better next time

    Vin F eprom

So my truck is a vin S but the engine is either from an F or the intake is because it has no egr valve but it still has the solenoids which aren’t working properly. I’d love to get a custom chip to eliminate the whole vac system but at this point money doesn’t allow so I am thinking for now just...

    Oil pump?

Thank you guys for your help. I appreciate all the advice. I’m going to put the truck to work of course I’ll be keeping a watchful eye on that gauge which I always do anyway with all my vehicles.

Steady at 45 running down the road

    Oil pump?

Ok finally got her back together and on the road today. It’s holding 18 psi at hot idle. That’s definitely better than it was doing also gauge was not bouncing like it was before and never dropped and then came back up either so I’d say a definite improvement. But I’m still worried what the...

    Oil pump?

Wow! I could see why you said it didn’t sound right. With a chain that loose and the crank sprocket apparently moving back and forth several degrees. I’m just going to replace the pump and see how it goes. I feel pretty confident that will be the fix especially after seeing the condition of...

    Oil pump?

Absolutely. I hadn’t planned on replacing anything that didn’t pertain to the OP dropping off. I just got to thinking about a loose chain causing the cam not to run smooth and therefore not drive the oil pump smoothly so since I could see it thought I’d ask about it.

    Oil pump?

Ha. Sounds good to me. I don’t think it’s quite there yet

    Oil pump?

I got to wondering if the bouncing of the pressure gauge could be caused by a loose timing chain. Since the pan is off I can see the chain and it’s seems it’s pretty loose. Is there a spec or a general guideline on how much deflection there should be in the chain?

    Oil pump?

When I had the covers off before I know none of the buttons where broke then but I’m still going to pull the covers to make sure. The pump shaft retainer was still in place when I pulled the pump. I think I will get the hv pump when I go back together but I want to look everything over some more...

    Oil pump?

The pick up screen WASN’T completely covered. That pic is what it looked like when I got the pan off

    Oil pump?

Ok I’m back. We had some interruptions that kept me from getting to the truck like I wanted but here’s what I found. So far I am not seeing any cracks and I’ve pulled #1 rod and main caps and the bearings look really good but I know that doesn’t mean can bearings are good. The pickup screen on...

    Oil pump?

I’m dropping the pan first and inspecting the bottom end then I’ll put the pump on if I don’t find any shot bearings or serious cracks. If I don’t find anything on the bottom end and I still have pressure problem then I’ll suspect cam bearings and start pulling

    Oil pump?

I’ll be sure to take some. I’m just hoping they won’t be pics of me crying while I pull the engine

    Oil pump?

I can believe it I hate rtv. It gets over used a lot and leaks after some age. It looks like there was quite a bit of it used on the oil pan after the last rebuild. I think I’m going to drop the pan tomorrow and do a close inspection of the bottom end if I don’t see anything I’ll install the...

    Oil pump?

It’s kind of hard to say. I drive a company truck so this is just a spare for the house. I put the head on back around September and drove it very little after that before it started this. I’ve been in the process of building a shop and finally got it finished so now I’m ready to really dig into...

    Oil pump?

I had an delco filter on it when all this started. I took it off and cut it open then found that I could just get these from work for about $3.00 a piece my cost. Something in the pan could be a possibility. I tried to keep all the old head gasket material out when I replaced the head by using...

    Oil pump?

Your right it definitely raised my eyebrows. Especially after watching it do that several more times. I’m actually using a john deere branded filter which I think is actually built by Donaldson. It’s actually for multiple gm vehicles including the 6.5. I’ve had a couple of them cut open to...

    Oil pump?

I got it on YouTube. Here’s the link. Quality isn’t great. This is when the engine was cold at idle. It done this several times then eventually drops slowly.
