They're conservatively rated at 385, but based on stock dyno numbers they're closer to the 411 that the F150s are rated at.
The engine is all top end and the super duties are heavy and sluggish with 3.73 gears and 20's so it wouldn't surprise me if the rams are quicker.
I know for a fact the...
Stock, it feels sluggish down low but I think most gas engines are like that. Ford has some crappy throttle mapping that limits the throttle plate opening until it goes over 4 grand. Plus this thing weighs close to 8k...it's freakin heavy.
Top end is pretty good however. Nail it on the highway...

It comes with 5 of his tunes... I chose:
87 tow
87 perf
93 economy
93 tow
93 perf :)
Looking forward to getting this, everyone that has run the 87 and 93 perf tunes has said that it feels like a...
Do ya want this poll made sticky and the ac poll un-stuck?
-confused, sort of
I don't put diesel in my truck anymore. But it hurts to fill up with 35 gallons of gas none the less.
I'm AB+ so they will usually only take plasma from me because it can be given to anyone. Have donated blood a few times a year since I was in high school.
Even did it once like an idiot two days before a bike race. The race didn't go so well.
12.5-13 would be more in line. Yes you could pull off 15 on an all highway trip but not mixed. 18? No way.
From what I remember it runs close to 2500 rpm at 70.
The only Vortec engine I had cooling issues with was the 97 7400 where the heater nipple rotted and broke off. That's between a 97 4.3L S-10, a 97 7.4L dually and a 2001 2500HD 6.0L.
Not related to the coolant because what did you expect to happen when you use a steel fitting screwed into an...
Woohoo! Damn that stuff is expensive though.
Last time I bought TranSynd through the Allison dealer it was around $120/5gal. Single gallons were $32ish. I'd be curious as to what the Mobil distributor here charges for it.
No one else mentioned this- When it's hot and the engine is running, is the upper rad hose rock hard? Are there any signs of black scum in the coolant bottle? Hopefully not!
I remember when my 06 did that... getting on the highway from a ramp that went up an overpass. :mad2:
It smoked like a freight train and wouldn't shift unless you let off the throttle. That big WIX prefilter I had was clogged and had a bunch of miles on it.
No, don't have to use Motorcraft oil.... Wal Mart has it. Same with the FL-820S filter and it ran just under $30 for everything IIRC.
The OCI is 7,500 miles which will put 5,000 on this oil and I figure I'll do a UOA then and again at 15,000.
That and 16 spark plugs to make you scratch your head. :hihi:
Jeff, it calls for 5W20. The Motorcraft semi-syn oil is actually made by Conoco-Philips and it has a good history, at least from the UOA info I've seen posted online. I may switch to M-1 5W30 after a couple of UOA's... every mfr is...
Not exciting I know, but I like doing and don't have to pay someone else.
Oil change (2600 mi) and one of the first times I had been under it... took some crappy phone pics.
Filter and 7qts of 5W20:
Under the hood... lots of plastic. The engine sits way back.
Looking backwards
It's got a...
