    Headlight for new grill.

Just thought I would share my findings on this topic...I converted my 96' WT grill to a 98' GMC grill. Pick up a simple test light if you dont have one for the wiring harness, everything should be farily straight foreward. I bought replacement headlights from LMC. Paid a high price as I...

    New Reflash...First Impressions and Questions

That was Bill's theory, but I have a hard time believing that. If my turbo was in fact "shot" or worn out, I would expect to see signs of it even with the stock programing. Obviously I would expect it to show more with the tune, but I dont believe the turbo is to blame in this situation...

    New Reflash...First Impressions and Questions

Very much so agreed. Ive been happy with the truck for years, but Im always looking for ways to improve the truck. In this case, the reflash was not an improvement on this particular truck. I know alot of people, including myself, use Heath's programing and are VERY happy with the results. I...

    Harness Question

Louis, are you in the market for a complete harness? If so, what the hell happened to yours?? I have one from a 98 also if it is something you may be interested in. -Nick

    New Reflash...First Impressions and Questions

Quick update....I took the reflash out and am now back to running my stock tune. No smoke now! The reflash definetly did have a stonger pull with the trailer. I think it held a constant speed much better when pulling hills. However, in my opinion the small increase in towing power was not...

    Resurecting New Engine

Thats some scary stuff right there. Could have been alot worse. I had heard a story of a guy who was under a raised truck and accidentally jumped the solenoid wire on the starter. Well the truck started right up, drove over the ramps and crushed him. His family came home to find him dead in the...

    6.5 exhaust brake

In my opinion these engines were not designed to handle that much back pressure. With that much pressure built up with a heavy load you risk blowby of the rings and stressing other engine components. That was the same response I had gotten from other members here when I had brought it up in...

    New Reflash...First Impressions and Questions

I did the key on key off procedure reccomended by heath. I tried another method today that I found on the dp, which included holding the pedal down with key on etc. I didnt notice any change. It seems as though as soon as I have some boost, anything over 4psi, the smoke clears right up. Its...

    New Reflash...First Impressions and Questions

I was under the impression that while you can use a stock tune, setting the TDC to -1.94 is highly recomended with the ATT, especially in regards to the smoke issue. -Nick

    New Reflash...First Impressions and Questions

My IP inlet pressure is right about 14psi at idle. Driving pressures are normally in the 9-12 range however. Do you think it would be worth trying to retard the timing a bit? And if so does this have to be done with the Tech II or can I just wing it by moving the pump. Maybe ill just ditch...

    New Reflash...First Impressions and Questions

Maybe im missing something.....can you explain the ATT comment? Did you switch to the GL4 as opposed to the GLE with the turbo? -Nick

    New Reflash...First Impressions and Questions

Turbomaster is correct. I ditched the vac system a long time ago. I have a spare gm4 that I could throw on there and try to see if it makes any difference or not. One thing is for sure, I wont be buying or rebuilding a gmx turbo for a replacement if that is the problem. Ive been eyeing a holset...

    New Reflash...First Impressions and Questions

Black smoke would be un-burnt fuel. Never really had an issue with it in the past. Seems to me the tune is allowing way more fuel than what is needed...or like you say the boost isnt there to aid in the combustion of the fuel. Typically black smoke will be seen hand in hand with higher EGT's...

    New Reflash...First Impressions and Questions

I have an in-cab pressure guage, Walbro FRC-10. 14-15psi at idle 7-9 psi wide open throttle. No fuel shortage at all. -Nick

    New Reflash...First Impressions and Questions

Hey guys, just installed Heath's tow tune in my 96' after wanting to do so for years. I ran the GL4 program in my 95 and was very happy with it. Cant say the same with this reflash however. Ive had it in the truck for several days now using it around town, on the highway, both unloaded, and...

    98deg and no overheating!

Stock GM5. From what I have heard there is very little difference if any when swapping to a gm8. Ive been looking towards a holset for years so that will probably be the next upgrade. Just curious, for those seeing problems with overheating, are you running stock programing or an aftermarket tune?

    98deg and no overheating!

I agree with you completely that you are describing a steep and long grade. I think the length of time on the grade probably is your biggest factor in the overheating. I can still tell you that I have to worry about EGT's long before I have to worry about my coolant temperature. The GMx turbo...

    98deg and no overheating!

If you can get your truck that hot towing a fiberglass boat you prob have other issues. Granted the roads in CT arent like the rocky mountains, but we do have alot of steep and rolling hills here. It sure as hell isnt flat. My truck is in front of a trailer probably 75% of the time all...

    98deg and no overheating!

I actually went to C&E yesterday in hopes of finding a computer to send to heath as a core. I had a spare but I either lost it, or it grew legs and walked away. Not a single 6.2 or 6.5 in the yard and nothing on the shelf. Guy said he rarely sees the gm diesels, lots of fords though. I did score...

    98deg and no overheating!

I think the NV4500 helps with alot of things....my sore clutch knee not being one of them. Truck is a late 96 with dual stats but it had the factory flat panel air box. Ive got a K47 w/amsoil filter in there now though. -Nick
