Michael, -I thought I remembered sending you a brass swiveling NPT x hose barb? Do you still have it? If you lost it I can probably send you another, -it was made by Parker, -and the swivel is sealed with an o-ring, -good stuff.
As far as removing stuff like that, -particularly in aluminum...
Man, after reading your post, I figured Kenny was spot-on with the downpipe rubbing -mine vibrates and makes all kinds of horrid noises when I'm backing up (my motor mounts were new when I did the rebuild 30k miles ago, but have been used and abused). :hihi:
Are you absolutely sure the noise...
I'm on board with everyone else, -one more vote for converter bolts from me.......
When I bought my cherokee from a private party, it had loose torque converter bolts. The guy thought the engine was knocking (this was one of those times that I used my mechanical knowledge as an advantage and...
You're certainly right about everyone having their own way of doing things. I have heard from several that the CDR was designed to promote negative crankcase pressure. I do not understand how that is possible unless there is vacuum present at the turbo inlet. The only way vacuum would be present...
Funny you mention honing carrier bearings to make them slip-fit, -I did the same thing! The part I had problems with was on my first two 44's trying to get the dang carrier back in without the case spreader, -that sucked bigtime. I never quite understood why they run so much bearing preload...
For the record, I just unplugged my CDR and left the grommet in my valve cover. It's not making a mess, -probably because I don't have a lot of blowby.
I still have that wad of metal-wool in the valve cover baffle, -and honestly, it seems to be doing the trick for mine.
I realize the CDR...
Simon, Says!!!,.....;)
You do have to admit, if we were ever to run CDR's, I think that would be a good place to put them though.
I found a "better place" for mine, -the same place my PMD went.......
Is it because of the ease of being able to adjust the pinion? I've never done a 14 personally, -done lots and lots of 44's, and a couple 60's, -they are definitely not high on my fun-list.
I also remember the 14FF carrier having spanner nuts??
Yep, Kenny is right on this one. I have had a spindle on a 14 full floater repaired, -drop it off and pay the $300, pick it up a day later. The results were very nice, -the journal diameters were spot-on after welding/turning/grinding. The best part was not having to dink around with all the...
My apologies, I gave you the wrong trim dimensions. The low flow is 4.00", the high flow is 4.25". If they are selling you a 4" trim unit for a '98, then it isn't a HO pump.
The 130 GPM pump (used on '97 and up with dual thermostat housing) is what most refer to as the high output. With that being said, any standard replacement pump for a '97 and up (tell them it's a '98 to be safe) should get you the high volume pump. One other way to verify is to measure...
I really enjoyed reading most of this thread. The bottom line is that we kick into "survival-mode" and do whatever we need to do to get out of a pinch. For some, buying a $7k replacement engine when dead halfway across the country would be a no-brainer. However, for poor pathetic guys like me...
The 18:1 Mahle pistons have the wristpin relocated, the tops, Ricardo bowls, and ceramic/anodize are identical to a stock piece.
Rumor has it they are no longer being made due to low demand.
Thanks for the help, -I figured it was closer to 19, but 18.5 is fine by me. That would probably...
Buddy, according to your spreadsheet mine looks to be closer to 18.5:1?
The 18:1 marine pistons have .032" reduced compression height, and the block is decked .010" with stock thickness gaskets. What would that yield?
Oh yeah, -with diamond cups...
Thanks, Rich.
I'm certainly no expert on 6.5's, but based on the information you supplied, I would keep it as close to stock CR as possible considering you aren't going to flog it with big boost and fuel, or tow. This is just my personal opinion but, in your situation it would be kind of pointless to lower CR...
Bobbie, thank you for finally making this public knowledge. I searched for you when I did my conversion (been 4 years now) but couldn't locate you. Having a manual trans, it really was a simple conversion. Despite the fact that my DB2 is far from perfect (has some governor and metering valve...
I thought these engines were top-oilers, -meaning the mains/rods are fed from the cam journals??
One thing is for certain, that bearing is smeared into oblivion.....
Geez, I guess comin' up on age 42 is takin' it's toll on me, -it frustrates me to read what I write sometimes.....
I meant to say different BRANDS of oil, -not amounts...
Speaking of "amounts" -I heard a rumor that if you run 'em 6 quarts low, you don't see the blowby smoke for as...
Was the oil up to temp when you shot this video? When I fire mine up cold, -there is literally no visible oil vapor out of the fill tube, -but once up to temp, -mine huffs every bit as much as the truck in the video.
I've never really worried about it, -it runs too good. I have also noticed...
