Hard Shifting NV4500, less than 2 years on clutch

The pilot bearing depends on what's left. The bread/soap/grease method I have heard of but never tried. Depends on how well it seals to your drift/punch thingy could use a little electrical tape to tighten it up maybe. Use a rag to cover it I imagine it can be a messy process. I have used a...

Hard Shifting NV4500, less than 2 years on clutch

I have a question though for my next time at some future date and my knowledge base. At the coupling of transmission to transfer case. Do ya'll grease the splines or oil it and let the transmission oil splash lube it? I think the overfill recommendation is to help lube this?????? I think I...

Hard Shifting NV4500, less than 2 years on clutch

I agree Rockabillyrat. In my picture I have a needle bearing. It sorta looks like the bushing but that is just the end picture and it has a bushing and race/cup assembly iirc and the bushing part holds the little seal to keep clutch dust out of the needles and grease. The first needle bearing...

Hard Shifting NV4500, less than 2 years on clutch

I don't explain it very well in my pics on that thread. Look at the picture of my worn pilot bushing cut in half placed on the input shaft. From the wear pattern left you can see it leaves some area at the end of the tip of the input shaft not engaged into the bushing. This is unused wear...

Hard Shifting NV4500, less than 2 years on clutch

https://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/threads/my-clutch-mod.49102/#post-597719 Some of my pics are in this thread by Chris. It is also a good thread by Chris. I just wanted others to be aware of the pilot depth issue if they did not know. Some years may be different it is important to measure...

Hard Shifting NV4500, less than 2 years on clutch

If the pilot bearing is worn it lets the input shaft run out more. Point your finger at something and turn a little circle pointing with the tip of your finger this is what happens with a worn pilot bearing.

Hard Shifting NV4500, less than 2 years on clutch

Check spin down by trying to shift into a non-synchronized gear. Reverse isn't synchronized on my 97. So from neutral press clutch and try to shift into reverse if it doesn't stop grinding and drop into gear quickly its probably has other issues too compounding your problems. GL4 is not...

    My Shop

Good video on the cutoff grinding technique. Makes sense because you are not suppose to use the side of the cutoff wheels and/or no side pressure. Try to use type 1 guard, the handle, and faceshield too.

    Draining Coolant from radiator

I have done the siphon thing too on different vehicles. I recommend a clear small hose with extra length. I haven’t looked but can you get a clear drop from the lower hose say at the midpoint or other section. If replacing the hose anyway can you poke a hole in hose at an area and collect...

Coolant Temp Gauge Slow to React

I thought the ecm read the head temp sender and the gauge read the crossover sender? How long might matter….iirc The engine has to get to a minimum temp I thought it was 160F in 10 minutes or DTC 15 is set. But my memory is bad. Sucks to be away from tools. Maybe could have unplugged...

    Why I DIY

Yeah it is not. Good for you not paying. Hit any big potholes or parked it with a front tire higher? How much do u have torsion bars cranked are they close to even? Any of that move? Sounds like the alignment shop forgot to straighten the steering wheel. Did you get a print out when...

    Why I DIY

Don’t think caster chamber really affect tire wear much. One of those requires a kit to adjust. If it has never been adjusted with the kit then it is probably ok. I was recommended not to do the knock out kit. I took mine somewhere and the Mechanic didn’t know there was a knock out and kit...

    Why I DIY

Maybe it was centering a 6’ board and extrapolate the toe I now am second guessing myself 1/4” toe in right at tires sounds like a lot. Maybe measure what you have and adjust a little at the time test drive repeat.

    Why I DIY

Take it somewhere else. Now you can’t trust that shop. It is insulting to listen to people try and get money out of you. In the auto world It is near exhausting it seems some days to deal with dealers, insurance, service. Are you starting from scratch? I’d take it somewhere else. I think...

Any vehicle but this is a pickup - wreck diminished value damage multiplier and insurance arbitration ?

I probably should have found a lawyer or paralegal that would help me early on for a small fee to start and retainer or something. Doubt I can back out of arbitration since I already filed. 20 yrs ago I briefly dated a farm bureau adjuster who told stories of lawyers getting involved in small...

Any vehicle but this is a pickup - wreck diminished value damage multiplier and insurance arbitration ?

Arbitration still in processing. They are sticking to their evaluation. They claim SC does not have a formula for diminished value so % and modifiers don’t matter to them. So I guess it is total negotiation and market investigation. I went by carmax and have a buy offer for comparison...

That puts it in perspective. I did not mean to play the blues - whoa is me. You know how it goes you ask a question but the devil is in the details.

Any vehicle but this is a pickup - wreck diminished value damage multiplier and insurance arbitration ?

To file arbitration in SC you have to file against the liable person. Then the insurance is suppose to indemnify the insured. I was trying to be neighborly with him just to let him know. I was going to ask if he had any preference to receive the summons. I don’t have a beef with him yet...

Any vehicle but this is a pickup - wreck diminished value damage multiplier and insurance arbitration ?

Delivering the summons to the county police I called the insurance agent number on accident report and asked if they could give me owners cell number that I wanted to give him a heads up I had to file for arbitration and if he had any questions I could answer. The agent said they couldn’t give...

Any vehicle but this is a pickup - wreck diminished value damage multiplier and insurance arbitration ?

I have never been in a wreck or made a damage claim. I naively thought they would be fair. When I started my claim Allstate said on the phone they would pay $36 dollars a day for a rental but I had to pay for it then they would reimburse me. You can't rent a car for that so I started doing...
