Ok so I'm slowly rebuilding the 6.5 that died in my stepside plus I'm doing a whole bunch of other work while the engine is out and money allows me too. I have the engine built to a complete short block with the injection pump installed. It's a DB2 pump with only 4000 miles on it. The engine has...
You can change them with the heads on, but it can be a bit of a challenge. Just some long needle-nose pliers, extra long screw driver and a lot of patience.
Lets see there's been 3 different engines in my truck. Two died interesting deaths. First one was the original 6.2 that I hydro-locked in a 4 foot deep stream. Completely cracked the length of one cylinder. Plus bent and twisted the connecting rod. I kept the rod as a souvenir.
The next one...
Well some warranty is better then none. They want an awful lot for an engine that will probably need to get a basic rebuild of sorts. I actually picked up a decent used 6.2 for $80 pretty close to home. Engine needs to be bored at least 0.010 over. Which means new pistons and necessary machine...
Well I'm happy that you're having luck with them, so might be a slim possibility of getting a long block from them. 6500 is a lot to spend. When I talked to them on the phone they said they test run and give one year unlimited mileage warranty.
I do get what you're saying about spending money...
Well Teds and Boyce both sell used running engines which I could go with. But for the price they want I can freshen up the non-running military 6.2 that I got for 80 bucks. While I like building engines it would be nice to not be building one for this truck again for a long time and lots of...
Forgot all about Boyce epuipment. Have to look into them too.
Its a nonsquiter block with a high volume oil pump. Went from 50lbs idle, 60 running down to zero over the course of 5 miles. Started looking for the issue and still actually haven't found it. Had good flow to the gallaries that...
Hmm, could be a good inbetween option. Do they have a website that I can check out?
I'm more then willing to sell the crank and pistons. I have to check the crank first to make sure its ok.
Good to know! This is why I love forums like this, like minded people helping each other. I will certainly avoid the new york place.
Guess I'm going to be buying the GEP long block from Peninsular.
Thanks guys. Very much appreciated!
Kris
I'm 99% sure it is. Bought it from Peninsular around this time last year. Talked to Mitch and told him that I wanted the forged one. That's what they charged me for, so it better be.
The engine in my truck needs a complete rebuild (again :mad2: first time was a broken crank) after suffering from a massive oil pressure loss after only 700 miles. So I just don't trust the block to be rebuilt for a 3rd time that I know of. Was originally bought from the Diesel Depot back in...
True, or having a "Y" pipe connection would also probably work. Its still a possiblity to do but low on the list of things to do. Plus I have a good true HX40 that I can use a single.
Very cool setup. I had considered doing twins on my truck one day but since I run an intercooler its simpler to just run a good single. The charge pipes take up a lot of room that would be needed for the second turbo.
I'm running a Duramax intercooler that I cut down some to fit in the space...
Everyone seems to love the ATT turbo from what I've read so far. I'd get one for my truck, once its running again, but I happen to get a true HX-40 turbo for FREE!!! Came off of a good running 8.3 cummins that for some strange reason was heading to the scraper. Was an ex-fleet truck and they...
100 bucks sounds lot more reasonable. I'm sure I could find a machine shop to do it where I live but having someone who's done it before would be prefered. So who are you. Guys sending them to?
