I will post it, but will likely have to remove the names of the machinists and stuff.
I have a spreadsheet on the go, so I'll post all I can when I can.
Question regarding balancing:
Should I get my crank balanced? The engine shop doesn't figure it will have much effect due to the relatively low RPM of this engine.
It is a chunk of change, which is why I brought it up. If I can find a way to get/make a girdle I'll go that way. It's definitely getting studs, though.
I'm thinkin about a Fluidampr. SCAT doesn't like them, and I can't see why.
And hey, it's only $500, not like I don't have many times...
The title says it all.
I have a 2001 block in the shop being machined as we speak. I have a shop building the short block for me and I would like to know your opinions about the bottom end.
The current build is as follows:
2001 Navistar 6.5L
New Peninsular 18:1 Pistons
New Scat 9000...
I'm contemplating getting a set when I do a restoration on my truck. It seems they'd cause more stress on axles and wheelbolts, though. I do drive some rough terrain faster than I should(Ahh the wonders of Saskatchewan highways!) so I'm afraid of having trouble shortly down the road.
I don't remember how I did it offhand(can't picture the oil cooler lines right now) but I just had some hydraulic lines made for my 6.2L. I think it uses an NPT fitting, though I can't remember at this moment!
The good thing was it only cost me $20.00.
lol. He's lucky to have a license. 3 6.5's and 1 duramax. Wrapped the duramax around a pole, 2 6.5's hit deer, and the third twisted the frame when he had to hit the ditch to avoid an oil truck that was pretty much driving diagnolly on the highway. All on the way to work at 5am in the dead of...
My cousin has an 06 cummins that has had: 6 injectors, 2 steering assemblies, $3000+ in body work from hitting the ditch because of death wobble, and assorted other things. All within 30,000km.
He's owned(and totaled) 3 6.5's and says they're a far superior machine in regard to reliability...
One of my family members always used to scoff at kids complaining about walking all the way across town to go to school. When she was a kid, she walked for 10 years and never complained.
She didn't mention(or more likely didn't realize) that her childhood town is only a few hundred...
Same here. Now that I'm doing custom spraying and pretty much anything that makes money I drive at least 150km a day on gravel. When I restore my truck I'm going to see if I can have them refinished...already..
If you drive any sort of gravel you might dislike having aftermarket wheels. I'm disappointed with them, as they're getting chipped and corroding more often than I can polish them!
Nice job Chris!
sshewins:
You have no idea the amount of grasshoppers there are in Sask right now. The inside of my WHEELS have a layer of hoppers 1/3" thick!
Luckily, they didn't take after the durum or flax in our area this year!

I suggest calling around to engine shops in your area asking what they have in stock.
If you find a good shop that knows what they're doing, then you should have no trouble building a good, long lasting engine! Make sure they're willing to work with you to build what you want, not what they...
