    Starter woes.

A service truck. I can’t remember what type starter it was, might have been a delco but idk. This was 20 years ago. Once removed, I hooked up a set of jumper cables to test the starter and it started cranking as soon ground as the main cable was hooked up.

    Starter woes.

I’ve seen it once on a 6.5. Something went crazy in The solenoid, it cranked until the side posts melted out of the batteries (never starting because the key was off). Two guys went through the harness independently then together- no issues were found. Stater was smoked obviously. New...

6.5 smoking constantly and smells like unburnt diesel

Welcome Billy. Tons to learn here that will keep it running well. Marty has the first two things correct for diagnosis.

    6.5TD motorhome starting problem

Yeah, it’s a trade of convenience of use vs effort & cost. For a daily driver truck and a person in the land of ice& snow… might be worth it. A rig that gets occasional use and never in a hurry to get in and go fast- very hard to justify. Imo I would focus on the critical items, then a better...

Sucked Near A Quart of Oil, Temp went to 210.

Excellent point. When your regular filter bypasses, that means the oil that is coming back from your oil cooler goes through without being filtered at all. Going to very fine filters that catch all the stuff sounds good but if you don’t keep it clean all the time, or that filter can’t flow all...

Sucked Near A Quart of Oil, Temp went to 210.

There is legitimate difference in times and methods based on which break in oil is used. Then there is all the “my gramps said”. Breaking in the engine- biggest two things breaking in are the rings and the bearings. The rings then falls into two categories of compression rings vs oil rings...

    CV Axle Seperation

Straight water/ break in oil/ running any kind of flush in something: Do the math- write the stop mileage or time on duct tape with a sharpie and the duct tape goes on the inside of the windshield where it is impossible to miss.

Sucked Near A Quart of Oil, Temp went to 210.

Yeah… you wanna change that oil & filter asap. The longest of any of the break in oils is 500 miles that I can think of. Most are 400. I would run the next oil (regular oil)for 500 miles then change it and the filter again. No point in testing this or the next oil because we know you ran it a...

Sucked Near A Quart of Oil, Temp went to 210.

Call the Delco tech support line and ask them if that is the right source from amazon. Where did you get the new GM stats? Pull & test they open when they should. No such thing as too many oil changes in fist 5000 miles of a new engine. You have 900 miles on it now? How long did you run the...

    9.9L Gas Conversion

A lot of hummer/hmmwv owners do the conversion. It is not uncommon for people to get the dmax & allison trans installed, but things fall apart on the electrical/electronics side. If you have an entire donor pickup, then swap everything over it works out. But the dash gauges often becomes an...

Engine oil viscosity change for the 6.2 L gasser recall video of oil geek

Haha, I saw that one earlier today. I responded to one guy in the comments to focus in the last 1 minute… People hear something and want to instantly apply it to everything they have.

Rings and bearings while I have the engine out?

Engine tech is a rebranding company. They buy over runs of other manufacturers and have them boxed in their name. It has been some years since I looked any up but I have bought parts from them by using their part number you can identify who the actual manufacturer is. The ordering part number...

    9.9L Gas Conversion

It’s neat, but 550hp / 750 torque that nets 8mpg… Duramax or Cummins any day of the week over that. Same power, double the mpg, much longer engine life, more parts availability, lower purchase price, no body shake from idle, quieter ride if you choose. Less weight on those front springs for...

How do you all get 6.2s to 300K miles

Yup. Even doing the toilet paper as the filter they smoked all the competition. Frantz is who all the other bypass filters have been trying to copy for decades. The original design was literally use a roll of toilet paper as the filter media but people freaked out so they made a regular...

    OH NO, ANOTHER THERMOSTAT PAGE

The temperature of the thermostat is not always what temperature the engine will run at, but what temperature the coolant starts going through the radiator. The engine is considered running cold when it is below 160°- the timing will advance and the idle RPM will raise. DS4 ECM is programmed...
