Half the joy I get from camping is food from the grill, how bout we post up some camp recipes?

One of my favorites is taking silver doller mushrooms, cut them in half and wrap a piece of bacon around it and holding it in place with a tooth pick or skewer and grilling them untill the bacon is done. Every one loves them and the cook steals his share while grilling.

I do something a little different, I use water chestnuts instead of the mushrooms. Might have to try yours this weekend.

Good ribs... Simple and easy.
Prepare 1 Day before leaving

You will need: 2 Bottles Stubbs Pork Marinade Or 1 Medium Bottle Veri Veri Teryaki
2 to 4 Pounds Pork Ribs
A Tub For Marinading

Go to Costco or equivalent and buy some ribs. A lot for cheap.
Let them sit out for about 2 hours, WRAPPED IN THE ORIGINAL PACKAGING

Once moderately close to room temp, open the package and slice them to individual pieces, lengthwise following the bone.

Then get a big tupperware tub, or something like it with a lid. Empty 1 bottle Stubbs, or 1/2 bottle Teryaki into the tub. Place all the ribs in, but not overlapping. If pieces overlap, get one more tub.

Place the rest of the one bottle of stubbs marinade over the ribs. SAVE SOME MARINADE FROM THE BOTTLES FOR GRILLING!!!!!! Let sit overnight. If you want, you can marinade before you leave, so they wont taste funky.

When you cook them, Place them on the grill, then flip them within 2 minutes. Flip once more, 2 minutes after that. Let cook until done, flipping when needed, and basting with the rest of the sauce from the marinading container occasionally.

Serve on paper plates, with some of the left over sauce from the bottles drizzled on top.

ENJOY!

My wife wants to know why I'm drooling on the key board? :drool5:
I'm putting this on the list for our next camp out, thanks.

Lol, discovered them not too long ago. REALLY like them! But its a little hard with me, because i have this port-a-firepit, and i try charcoal in it, and it dont work, cause its got no holes in the bottom, and no hole on the top for temp control. so, sometimes, they some out a little burnt and underdone...

Try it at home first, and tell me what you think!

P.S. If you have ladies going along on the trip, make both, cause the Stubbs is a little spicy.

Quick Easy Baggie Eggs

Dont feel like cleaning up?

This is GREAT for the last day, when you have to get everyone fed, and moving in the morning.

What you need: Eggs (usually 2 or 3 per person. more if your a redneck)
Zip-Lock Bags or cheaper equivalent (2 per person)
Milk and what ever add-ins you want (eg. Bacon bits, Bell Peppers, What you usually like in an omlette)

Bring a pot of water to a boil.

While waiting for it to boil, crack the disired number of eggs per person in to individual bags.

Add a small amount of milk, about 1/4 cup or less. You can use water instead, but milk tastes way better. Add desired toppings (bacon, cheese, etc.). Seal the bag.

Squish the egg and stuff together until well mixed and the yolks are mixed in.

Then place the bag in another bag, with the zippers facing opposite directions (place bag w/ egg in zipper side towards ground, and outer bag, zipper pointing towards sky).

Place bags in boiling water until cooked thoroughly.

Remove bags, but be careful. THE BAGS WILL BE HOT!!

Remove outer bag, then un-zip the inside, and eat out of the bag. Just throw the bag away, and dump the water out. NO MESS!!

:hurray:

Grilled Pepper Whore's Ovaries!

Buy yourself an assortment of peppers. I like the mild ones and so will everyone else especially the ladies! Multi colored peppers look good on the grill and suprise everyone!

I slice the Peppers in half long ways
Clean out all the seeds
Slice up some of your favorite cheese(Jalapeno Cheddar is my favorite)
Slice up some BBQ'd Chicken or Steak in little pieces
Place Cheese and and meat on the Pepper halves
Place the Peppers on the BBQ
Cook until the cheese is melted......don't worry if the Peppers get a little black

My experience is that most people are a little leery at first but once they realize the peppers aren't hot they disappear in a hurry!

These are Delicious!:drool5:

call me easy, old fashion, i like my hot dogs and burgers over the open fire.

could also be because i dont knwo how to cook too, but now i wish i could because those ribs sound amazing.

Brats

Being a Midwesterner we understand good brats. This is my recipe for them.

1) Six pack of good beer (Leine's Summer Shandy works sweet)
2) 1 dozen brats
3) Water
4) 3-5 large onions

Take a large pasta pot and add a six pack of beer. Place the brats in the pot with the beer and then add enough water to cover the brats that aren't in the beer. Cut up the onions and place in the pot and bring to a boil. Once boiled, take the brats and place them on a grille over the campfire. Cook until they are golden brown. Place the brats back into the pot with the beer, water and onions and bring to a boil and then simmer until everyone is ready to eat.

If you are a fan of good micro brews, if done correctly, you can make the brats take on a hint of beer flavor. If you use a stronger beer, the brats will taste like beer.

Next time you grill your burgers up take a small container with a lid then as you take each burger off the grill slather your fovorite BBQ sauce on both sides while it is still hot, place all the slathered burgers in the container and close it. Let it sit for 15 minutes then you can serve them but watch out, they will go fast. :hurray:

This is a basic campfire Lunker Dinner. I have attached a pic for your perusal.
Not much is needed for this meal. A good size fish like the 5 lb rainbow you see here. Some McCormick's California Garlic Pepper and a cube of butter. Sprinkle the fish liberally with with Garlic Pepper both inside and out. Adjust you fire so it isn't totally blazing under the fish. Place fish on grill. While turning the fish consume large quanities of Beer and swap lies. After 15 mins cut up butter and place inside. Cook until done. Use empty cardboard box as platter and dig in with your fingers......After you eat the top half if you are careful you can dislodge the bones and spine in one piece from a properly cooked trout...
Bon Appetite!:cheers2:

Peach and Blueberry Cobbler

Start with a 10" dutch oven. If you don't know what one of these are, you can find them at Bass Pro or Cabela's or any outdoor store. They are a cast iron pot with 3 or 4 short legs on the bottom and a cast iron lid. You can cook just about anything you can think of in one. I done everything from desserts to stews and chicken.

For this Cobbler, add 1 big can of sliced peaches and one can of blueberry pie filling.
In seprate bowl mix 1 box yellow cake mix with the water called for on the box, and spread over the fruit already in the dutch oven.
Next cut a stick of butter in pats and place evenly over cake mix.
Place the lid on and place 12 hot briquettes underneath the dutch oven and 12 on top of lid. wait about 45 minutes or when it smells done, it is. Serve in a bowl with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. This is by far our entire camping groups favorite part of our weekends. Also feel free to use pretty much any kind of fruit or different type of cake mix. One of our other favorites is cherry pie filling and chocolate cake mix.
