Since I will be killing 2 trucks for parts for my project truck, I thought I'd start another thread on just the killing of the very tired donor trucks. I have junked 5 of the GMT400 trucks so far.
The first one this time to get killed is a running and kindof driveable 93 K2500HD extended cab. This truck really has seen much better days. The only salvagable body part is the passenger side door.

This truck came with a 6.5 turbo engine . It blew up and was replaced with a 6.2. Not shure what year yet. The PO said he swapped the 6.5 heads and IP onto this engine but not the turbo:???::???::WTF:. This truck has the NV4500 manual transmission. It is the main reason I bought it. I want to have a spare one on hand in case the tranny in the Refuge project truck develops problems. I should be able to find quite a few other parts worth saving also.
First thing to go was the hood and fenders. Then fan shroud and fan. More to come.

he must of used that truck at the mud derby or tough truck contest.

At least you will have more spare bolts and nuts, and plenty of wire and connectors for trouble shooting purposes;)

Fixed it for ya! :hihi: I don't know where he has room for it all even after seeing it I still don't know.

I pretty much dis assemble the entire truck. I save all the wiring harness' and every nut and bolt since there are so many oddball bolts

It definitely wasn't babied. The PO said he had a 5th wheel trailer roll over while hitched up was how the box and rear of the cab got really crunched. I also found plow light wiring and frame stiffeners, so it had a snow plow on it also at one time. It lived a hard life. It has around 200,000 miles on it.

More off the front and doors removed

After getting the fenders off I started cleaning the firewall off and removed the doors. The A/C lines all came off without twisting any lines off. It had maybe 2psi in the system.

Here is some of the highlights of the PO's work. He must have blown a brake hose at the caliper. There is a sheetmetal screw turned into the end of the steel line to cap it off. The broken hose was ziptied to the a-arm then. The brake pads were wore out and it was metal on metal.

Here is another highlight.:rolleyes5: The PO must not have saved the front starter bracket from the 6.5. the bracket for the direct drive starter is in there not attached to anything BUT there is a ratchet strap holding the starter to the frame:eek::???::WTF::nonod: I think Red Green may have owned this truck.

He did a redneck proud to say the least;)

There is some real dandy glow plug wiring in the first post on the passenger side of the engine and he had the 4wd actuator hot wired to a toggle switch on the dash also. The transmission/transfercase crossmember is hanging below the frame instead of on top of it too.

Interior and more coming out

After I took the doors off I started on the interior. The seats and console were first to come out to make it easier to get the steering column and dash out. I had disconnected the bulkhead connector on the firewall in the engine compartment and took loose the interior half of it. The engine compartment side of the bulkhead connector will come apart into 3 sections. they are engine, headlights/front, and rear. This makes it very easy to remove all of the wiring for the majority of the truck. There is also the hvac harness that goes through the firewall on the passenger side. it unplugs from the rest of the wiring right behind the glove box and can be pulled out into the engine bay

You should do a frame off restore on that baby. Is that the dash your getting my piece from?
BTW: should have your Kodiak handles and other parts headed your way tomorrow.

It's getting a frame off but not the restore. I'll be taking the box and cab off to remove the drivetrain. I have another dash piece picked out for you leroy. It's gray also. I guess I need to make time to get it boxed and in the mail.

You don't happen to have any 1994 or earlier red dash parts for sale?

I need a fuse box cover and a steering column filler W A/C if you have any in red you want to sale.

Red seems to be in demand. I haven'r junked any with red interiors[yet],sorry.

Back at it

I've been busy helping a friend build a shop but got back to the junking today.
I got all the previously removed parts put away[and labled] so I could move around the truck.
The heater/a/c unit came out and the cross body harness. I also took the whole clutch pedal assembly out of the interior.
The rear bumper came off with the hot wrench[torch] It's headed for the scrap pile.
Next was the box. 7 of the 8 mounting bolts came out with the impact wrench. The stuck one and 5th wheel hitch bolts came out with the hot wrench. I was rather surprised

that my tractor lifted the box off without any counterweight on it.

IMG_2057_9.jpgIMG_2058_10.jpg

After the box was off I was looking at the fuel tank. It was loose on the frame:???:
When I looked at the side of the tank facing the driveshaft it kind of told the story why. :nonod:

IMG_2059_11.JPG

5 of the 6 cab mount bolts came out with the impact wrench. The 6th snapped off.

Much to be learned taking one of theses completely apart.
It's just a little more than a riding mower:hand: It will mow 4.5 acres /hr ,the loader will lift over 2000 lbs and the backhoe digs 8 1/2 ft deep:eek:

More Big Fun Today

I stripped all the plasic trim and rear seat out first. I didn't need any of those parts but it's good to practice so I don't wreck a good one when I take it apart.

IMG_2060_1.jpgIMG_2061_2.JPG

I also took the man. trans. brake pedal and inside rear view mirror and e-brake pedal and cables off.
I fired up the john deere again and put the box blade on the back for counter weight. I pulled the truck out side and lifted the cab off the frame.

IMG_2067_8.jpg

Pushed the truck back in the shop after a good sweeping in there.
This truck has something on it I've never seen before. It appears to be a electric valve in the rear brake line that was added on. I'm gussing it was installed for stops on a hill. Push the brake pedal hit the switch and it will hold while you start letting the clutch out. This is my guess at what it's for. Please correct me if I'm wrong.IMG_2065_6.jpg

I started in on getting the wiring harness removed and out of the way. the exhaust and exhaust manifolds had to come off to get access to the starter. I ran into a problem when I tried to loosen the positive battery cable from the starter:WTF::mad2:

IMG_2071_12.jpgIMG_2070_11.jpg

I found out I was wrong in what I said previously about the starter brace. It was on the starter. There also was a broke off piece of a brace bolted to the block yet. Only 1 bolt holding the starter on and the ratchet strap to the frame :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: The good news is that the missing bolt only sheared off and didn't take a chunk of block with it:thumbsup:

I also got the clutch slave cylinder and master cylinder off.
The engine is a late [91] 6.2 660 block
