OK got my 1997 C3500 with the new motor, under 20k. Have oil pressure issues or gauge issues.. not sure. When its cold it has great oil pressure, over 40pounds. Now when it warms up it drops to 20 driving and 0 at idle. The truck has 298,000k miles so I know the gauges could be worn out as the needle "jumps" down 5pounds at a time, if that means anything. Even when it says no oil pressure, it sounds better then any other 6.5 I have owner/operated. Should I be worried?
I picked up a cheep oil pressure gauge from harbor fright, where would be a good place to put the sender? Any help before I buy a 454
Im going to update my sig now..

I would test out the sending unit mounted on the motor first.

When was the last time the oil got changed? If it has 20,000 miles on it, it could be part of the problem.

As you know it has been stated on here many times, the gauge on these trucks suck.

You are a very knowledgeable 6.5TD gear head. With the help of all your friends on here you will get it figured out!

Ill do some searching here but where abouts is that sending unit on the motor?

Fresh oil change and filter 20 miles on it at most

Every time I think I am knowledgeable something new happens that stumps me :mad2:):h

I am thinking tap in one of two places either under the ops or the turbo feed line. The turbo line would be way easier.

I had a similar problem but it never went to 0. When I replaced my ops my pressure is at 40 at idle when it is warmed up. When I am at wot it is almost pegged. That could be where the problem is.

Before changing the ops you need to hook up a bi-directional scanner and see what the pcm is reading the oil pressure at. Your guage could be wrong (it happens a lot). The only way to tell is check the pcm.

Isn't it the OPS on the back center top of the motor next to the fuel filter?

Ive done it before without taking the upper off, just be careful pulling and moving stuff around...

Any venders have an ACdelco one? or anyone know where I can order it on line? I work when the dealer is open..
