Wow. An article praising the 6.5!

I'm shocked. I didn't think they knew a 6.5 exsisted. I've bought the magazine several times only to see mega bucks maxes, strokes and cummins.
 
I'll agree with you. Diesel Power is defiantly all about the big money diesels that can hold pompous amounts of power. But to find an article that not only has the 6.5 in it, but also having Diesel Power PROMOTE the engine saying it would be great for an engine swap is just awe inspiring!
 
Did you see the date on that article, march of " 07 ",what happened to the rest of it they said they were going to push the 6.5 up into 6.6 performance does any body know if they could push it to perform like a duramax.

This is the excact reason I don't buy this mag anymore. They said there is not enough demand or use of the 6.5's to take up the space in the mag. So the remainder of the article was never printed. I call BS :icon_bs: apearntly they have never been here and seen what WE CAN DO. The only ever mention of the 6.5's is either Bill's add or when he goes to salt flats.

Diesel Power (6.6) is not Diesel Economy (6.5). You can get both out of the 6.6L so the swap wasn't in tune with the magazine subscribers.

The AC Compressor was located on both sides of the 6.5; driver's side being a later improvement for vibration and bearing life due to less load on other parts from compressor location being a shorter belt load path to the crank. True, most other GM truck has a separate AC belt located on passenger side. But the gassers of the era had the same changes from passenger side to driver side AC location. Downside being longer AC hoses and that may be the reason GM put them on the passenger side since AC was added to cars way back when.

So their quote is a "So what?":

"While no one would ever confuse the Duramax for the 6.5L, you can certainly see the family resemblance between the two. The cylinder bore (4.06-inch) is the same, the oil filler tube is in the same location, the A/C compressor and power-steering pump are still on the driver side of the engine :dr: , and even the engine's main electrical connectors are carried over from the 6.5L."
 
i remember this article. man that was a long time ago. i do wish they did finish that article. would of been intersting
 
maybe, i dont know if the db4 only works good at high rpms. pensuliar diesel did say they are very hard to time for whatever reseaon. they had to do it in house they say. i have no idea where the question came from though. db4 isnt in the diesel power article.
 
Good article. I thought they did a fine job of representing the 6.5 family of engines. Even seemed to know the goods and the bads. I liked it.
 
That's the first time I've ever seen where the IDI engine design is blamed for the excess heat generation in the 6.5TD. Is it true that the IDI design runs hotter than a direct injection or a common rail injection system?
