Great job Dan

So, an A Team turbo, a feed the beast mod, and a Kojo tune took your speed up 17 mph with similar loads!

Get that temp down and the fuel pressure resolved!

Went too far in the other direction, now it comes on at about 170, so, yeah, it's on all the time. I got royally porked by numbnut drivers on every single hill. If I can't take a run at it, starting out at about 55, how am I supposed to make the hill?
Anyway, it stayed at 185 except on the hills, got up to 210 a couple times. I let it rip wide open up every hill, was able to maintain the speed I started the hill at. The ATT pulls hard, but not hard enough to suck in little foreign cars driven by oblivous old men. I think I've got bumper stickers on my front bumper that weren't there before. GET THE F*** OUT OF MY WAY!!
Last big hill I rolled into at 45, thanks to the nitwits who approach in a 55 zone, let the hill bleed off 10 mph then accelerate after they porked me. I got about halfway up and the grade decreases very slightly, unbelievably, the truck grabbed hold of something and actually started putting on more speed! Had to check my mirrors to make sure the trailer was still there! I blew past 55 mph easy and had more but had to let off when I went over the top. THAT was what I wanted to see.
Thought I was doing great on fuel mileage because my gauge was still well above half, but I got 19 gallons in it so it wasn't spectacular after all. I figure 9 mpg overall. Need to check and see what I'm getting empty, used to be about 14 but I haven't checked it in ages. I'll take 9 mpg. There was a lot of black smoke when I needed it.

I got about 9.5 MPG Towing last weekend and it was 75% uphill. I wonder why you are having such power problems. How heavy is your camper ? Mine loaded is about 6800lbs and I had no problems. I mean don't get me wrong, it was no Cummins. The Lemon blew it away but it was able to maintain hills and even pass a few slow Tractor trailers. One thing I notice when towing is whenever possible , let the Cruise control do the work. The tranny seems to shift more seamlessly and at better points when on "Autopilot"(I said Auto Pilot not Otto Pilot...Had to see the Movie Airplane! to get that joke..:D )
Anyway there were times climbing where it was better to drop the truck into 3rd gear manually. What gear are you in climbing ? Of course my old 2000 k3500 to me pulled alittle better than most 6.5TDs and it has long been speculated altthough never proven that some 99+ 1 Tons had the "210 HP" tune factory. I wonder cause I gotta say my Dually pulls really good. Seems carmakers always seem to get things the best at the last year of production.

NICE!

His looks a bit heavier than mine from the pic I'd say like a 28 ft'er and with a slide he's probably somewhere in the 8-9k range I'm gonna guess....??

Glad to hear that the return trip went well, Dan. I do hope you didn't do anything bad on the trip there.

-Rob :)

It's a 33 foot bunkhouse, four seasons insulated, so its a little heavy. GVWR is 10,925, dry weight 8450. So rolling at around 9-10k loaded with gear (wife needs to bring everything we own, and food for 10 people for a week. Which we bring home because we eat out 75% of the time) Truck is a little light right now, havent put my toolbox back in since changing the bed.
I've scaled my truck in the winter, it usually weighs around 9000. Right now I'm guessing it's under eight, with no toolbox and 100 feet of chain and so forth. Might be even less, I'm not sure. Thought I read somewhere what the curb weight was and it was a lot lower than I thought.
So I'm likely over 15k combined.
Hate to say it, but I suspect my 82 with just a few minor mods, ie: cam, intake and exhaust, would probably tow circles around the 97. Never get 9 mpg with my foot in it though. And I'm not really enthused about a 3 speed automatic.

Get that fuel problem fixed an then see what it will do, sucking the IP dry cant be good for fuel mileage or power. Glad to hear that you have improvement.

When you put it that way it sounds really impressive! Actually the 35 mph was with 235/85 tires, so later runs were with the taller tires and still getting some improvement.
I have considered a gear change because I refuse to downsize my tires. Be a lot of money though, for the rare occasions I get to go camping. If they'd fit I could throw the little 235/85s off my other dually on just for a trip, it might make a pretty big difference.
Lastly, I know the tall tires kill me, but I also have the aerodynamics of a garbage truck going backwards. Bodylift, plowframe hanging down, backrack with a 52 inch Edge lightbar, sunvisor all contribute to my wind resistance.

Still not a bad run, got to love that solid grunt feeling the ATT gives you under load, how about the exhaust sound under load.
