Well, a local town is liquidating some vehicles and one of them happens to be this.

1983 M1008 with 26,500 miles.

It has a crappy flat white paintjob that isn't original. It's missing the Brushgaurd, all the d-rings, pintle, nato plugs and the blackout drive light. It's fairly straight, NO RUST, and honestly pretty clean. The canopy HAS TO GO, I have never seen something so hideous.

So. The if I win the auction, I'm up in the air as far as what I would do with it. I'd feel bad tearing it apart for the axles (which I've contemplated getting a set for the 99 and SAS it). The first option is to trade this one for the 86 that was at the house awhile back and steal the axles from it, and then let this one get built up since it's in considerably better shape. The 86 blew the motor on it's voyage across the state. The second option is to sell this one for a profit.

So, the auction is in mid april. Wish me luck.

God, that top is fugly. Never seen one like that before though. It's a clean truck overall, doesn't seem to have too much rust either. How much you think it'll run for at the auction?

Keep it and fix it up. That thing is clean save for the crappy paint job. There is no other truck like a CUCV. You are lucky it's so far away or I'd track it down and bid on it...:D

I heard a long time ago that these trucks were supposedly NBC rated and had thicker body panels. Has anyone heard that before or just a lie that I read?

I haven't heard anything about thicker body panels, and I don't think it's the case since the fenders are the same and just plugged where the emblems go.

I really wouldn't mind keeping it, but honestly this one is more of a turn around and make a quick buck. I'm going to work on building up the 88 more then the 99.

With that low mileage you should really think about how good of shape it is in vs. anything else you have.

I wouldn't think mileage would mean anything on a truck like that. It's spent it's whole life sitting or idleing. The M1008 had the 3.08 gears if i'm not mistaken.

Most of those I've seen on the gov. liquidation site go for $4000 or more. One locally that had been cannibalized went for over $3000.
