Winter Grill Covers

Here's the cover I made for mine, ran it all winter in to the spring and the truck never got hot, it seemed to warm up a little faster in mornings, and held it's heat a little better too.

It was just a piece of laminated cardboard spray painted black, I left a little opening around the bowtie for some air, and I made little tabs that slide in next to the headlights and then zip-tied it around the hood latch. The only drawback to it was that when we got some sleet it was junk.:(

Someone stole your bumper holes bro! You be running 'round lookin like a gasser! I wouldn't even wave to you if I saw you!

I believe that the trucks that were factory equiped with the 6.2 didnt have the holes. Just the 6.5s and sport tahoes.

The covers look nice guys. I really like the cover that Jamierayo has. What material is it made of?

Your right HS, it did not come with a holes in the bumper.

But that I still feel left out without them....... I wave to all kinds of guys with the holes and they don't realize what is going on, it doesn't help that the old N/A sounds just like a gasser at cruisin' speed!

But never fear.....I am workin on getting my hands on one!:D

Better off having a gasser w/the holes than a diesel without! :)

People must think i'm nuts too, half the time I stick my arm out the window and do the 'pump fist' for lack of better description....They just look around like i'm signaling to someone else... lol.

No pride in the 6.5 for some folks.

I'm not trying to be a wise guy, but the guys asking for winter cover information are from the east coast USA and those giving answers are from where it actually gets cold. I wouldn't cover unless I was one of those Alaska or Canada guys.

If I don't plug my truck in at night and start it up Ohio cold - maybe 10 deg F or so, I have warm air coming out the vents by the time I get to the end of my driveway and by the time I drive a few minutes, it will burn my feet off. Is this unusual? I'm guessing you guys that can't get heat have a coolant flow problem.

If its a coolant flow problem keeping anyone from getting hot, please let me know, I would like to duplicate what you are doing to keep my heat way down.

I tarp strap a piece of cardboard over the RH 2/3s of the grille, keeping the oil coolers exposed, and the radiator gets that portion of the grille, and the air from the nostrils, and that is usually plenty.

That said, a good t-stat will keep it warm on the road, but I use the cardboard to try and hold heat in a little longer so it doesnt cool off as quick when I am parked.

I too would be interested in a quality winterfront, as long as a guy could open a flap on the LH side for the coolers.

Love my winter front, it goes on from November to March. I get faster warm ups, runs hotter than without it. I have 2 flaps I can open or close but I do take it off when towing.

There are no negatives to running one if you use your brain, :p

I've wondered if you could fatigue the fan by having it only loaded on one side

Nope, its not an airtight seal, so the fan will have no problem pulling air and its winter, unless your towing, how much does the fan actually come on? I have electric fans and they have no problem cooling it down if it gets hot.

I've been wanting to make one, with the duramax fan, and mod'd new clutch,, I only see, 195 on the gauge during the hottest part of summer, and in the winter,, I only get to the first big mark between cold and 200. so 170ish? which I know don't help my mileage any. But when I have my plow on and run 10 miles to next town to plow,,, I still only get 195ish. So I'm not to worried about running hot,, I do think I would stop it short a few inch's from the top of the grille opening,, and have a few small holes in front of the coolers. I saved a political sign that is made of corrugated plastic. just need to blast some black paint on it, and go the GMC cut out,,, can't cover That up!!

Do enjoy your lack of fear from overheating. Hands down the #1 problem in my part of the world- so jealous...:D Like the non logo covers
