So, I let the g/f use my truck today to get to work and she got a stone chip in the windshield. When I got home from her house I noticed a nice crack across the whole bottom of the windshield by the defrost. Man that burns me.

I know it could happen to anybody but I haven't replaced a windshield in the 3 trucks I have owned. I never follow gravel or salt trucks and have never had a problem. I hate letting people borrow my truck after stuff like this happens.

How much are windshields and should I stick with a GM one or are they all the same quality?

If you have insurance compensation, turn it in, they should cover it and you should only have to pay around $100 for the deductible.

Be sure to tell them that it come straight from the truck, NOT bounced off the road. :)

Yeah, turn it in to the insurance if at all possible. most insurance companies will cover glass claims like that with little to no deductible.

I shattered a rear slider window of mine on my old truck and I think a deductible was about $250....maybe this will be different?:noidea:

Thing's are different when you did it yourself vs. someone else (at least with my Insurance company).

The guys in the little red trucks did mine. (Auto Glass Specialists/Safelite).

I turned it into the insurance company. Still had to pay $283 though.

Couldve been because it started as a wierd circular crack and I let it go through the summer until it got cold 5 months later and cracked.

Its kinda fun to watch the crack spread though.

I am an insurance guy. Call your guy. If you have full glass, there will be no charge, as long as you go through their network or their preferred vendors. If you don't have full glass, you will pay the deductible on your comprehensive coverage. If no comp, you pay it all.

Stay away from the stealer. Most, if not all, farm it out and sometimes this drives up the cost higher than what your company is willing to pay. Just make sure the glass shop uses OEM glass. The only company around here that makes their own glass that is as good as OEM is Safelight. They're ok to use, too.

Good luck, and Merry Christmas to all!!
