You got it. Little 2.2/2.4 Isuzu NA motor. Same setup as in the LUV pickup. There's a seriously nice (and seriously expensive) example on eBay right now. Go to eBay Motors and look up item #170428983481. Very sweet!

ya but that was in the 70's they called them luv pickups and it was an isuzu motor there where also isuzu trucks that looked just like the chevys. this gmc s15 iv never seen any thing like it but heck im only 21 its older than me

Wasn't there like a 4.3 or something?
Right - 4.3L V6. It was the little brother to the 5.7L motor. GM used them in some of their front wheel drive cars like the Cutlass Cierra. From what I remember, it was a pretty good motor. Not exactly a powerhouse, but great fuel mileage and a better reliability record than its big brother.

would make a nice little get to work truck those stacks would have to go tho they are a little rediculs on a min truck

I saw one advertized here on craigslist with a isuzu diesel in it. I had never seen one or even heard of it before that. There is probbly millions of them in other countries. The general didn't want us to have them. My brother in=law had a luv with the diesel. 30mpg +. This could be the same one. It has a mn. zip code.

gm made a 4.3 v-6 diesel and a 4.3 v-8 diesel. The v-6 was used in front wheel drives. The v-8 was used in mid size cars[cutlass, malibu, regal ect.] The v-8 was only built for 1 or 2 years. High failure rate same or worse than the 5.7.

GM used a small 2.4L Isuzu 4 cylinder diesel in the early "80" series S-10 (Chevrolet) and S-15 (GMC) pickups. It was not a high seller and was discontinued after several years. The Moraine assembly plant in Dayton, Ohio was the plant where these were assembled.

was the 4.3 6cyl diesel based off the gas engine like the 5.7 was??
Not shure on that. I do remember reading that they had a higher failure rate than the 5.7. I saw a caddy deville for sale that had the 4.3 v-6 diesel. The guy thought it was a collector item. If it ran yet it probly was.

There was an olds cutlas, i believe, for sale not long ago with the owner having that exact same ego. Now im sure that it is uncommon, but i sure wouldnt consider it a desireable collectors item. Just a survivor

Wasnt that little Isuzu diesel the one that was in the chevettes too. IIRC it got 50-60 MPG???

My uncle has one of those trucks. It's an 84 S-15 ext cab,2wd with a 2.2 isuzu. It's had a turbo added which gives it adequate power if you don't have any hills. However, it sounds great and gets 40mpg!
