Whose Fan clutch (aftermarket) kicks on earliest?

Suppliers, feel free to comment please.

I am looking for the fan clutch that will engange the fastest. I do not mind switching between a winter clutch and a summer clutch twice a year for the benefits.

(If I have a problem with it disengaging)

Reason for this is with plow on front it does all sorts of odd stuff to air flow.

sure does.... The OEM Delco from stealer replacement clutch engages around 210, but I have to almost stop to have it engange, which looses momentum. When fan engages (stock fan) it cools really really fast, but raises back up just as fast when fan disengages.

Problem is, there is little to no airflow blowing thru the radiator, which in effect doesn't allow the fan clutch to heat up enough to engage. Since I'm on the teetering point of it engaging fast enough, I think A special calibrated unit from Kennedy will catch enough heat to engage. (HOpe).

If it doesn't, my only other option will be to mount an electric fan that I hook up when I hook my plow up. I'll make it temporary and fast hookup. But I'd rather not.

I don't have heat issues while plowing, its only over the road driving 30+mph when my plow is loaded.

Never an issue during actual plowing, thank god.
 
The Hayden Severe Duty fans engage earlier than the stock fans. I'm not sure, but I think this may be what some of the vendors sell. I can get them local for less than $200.
 
Is their anyway to install on our trucks what the military has on the hummers?

The Hummers has a fan engagement that uses the power steering pump thing that increases the speed of the fan. It works really well in Iraq and anyplace else I have been.

Please someone pipe in that knows the name of what I am talking about.

It works by heat on the hummer. It turns on at a certain temp and also turns back of at a certain temp. The fan turns all the time just spins faster when the power steering pump portion kicks in. Kind of like a fan clutch. I will see what I can find out in the Military books. It may not be much help thou.

I feel it would help out some people if we could get it to work on our trucks.

I'm defanately curious myself, so don't feel like its a hijack! Shed some light to this subject. Also find out if its only spin on type or mounting type.

I will see what I can do, it will take a couple of days to get any info at all.

The Kennedy clutch engages the earliest.....Problem is disengagement, It robs a ton of HP (Also, priced way higher than everyone else)....if I had to do it again, I would go with SSD or Heath.

You running a Kennedy then? How do you get it to disengage? Like I was saying, I woudn't mind having to swap my Delco back on every spring. I don't want it to stay on for a 12 hour plowing duration though, when I only need it to drive too and from my plow routes, and to pickup and unload my plow.

The Kennedy won't work for you I don't think. It's not a spin on center hub. it's the older style 4 bolt like on the 94-95. That's why I didn't use it. The Heath is a bolt on swap although I am not sure it works any better than stock. As far as SSD I wouldn't. He makes "alot" of claims.

I got the 4 bolt kenny...

I wouldn't give SSdiesel another penny. He's not even an option.

Basically HEath or Kennedy.

So far I'm leaning towards The Kennedy. If I have to pull over for 5 minutes when I'm at location to help it kick off, thats not a problem. It's better than having to slowdown to prevent overheating.
 
I would definitely go with the Kennedy if you have the 4 bolt. IIRC the Heath only comes in Center hub anyway but I am still not sure the Heath fan is not part of my problem I won't condem it until I can do some tests. I like dealing with Heath better. JK is not the friendliest person I have ever talked to but I think his fan is better.
 
Matt, that HMMWV fan clutch would work great for you. I may put one on my 93. They are hydraulic, take about 100psi to release, there either fully engaged(no pressure) or fully disengaged(pressure), with no in between like an air fan clutch on a semi.

They basically have a pressure relief valve(set at 125psi) in the return line from the steering box, the bypass oil from the relief valve is returned to the reservoir like normal. The fan is "T"d into the 125psi line, to the fan clutch. To make the fan disengage you need a solenoid "T"d into the 125psi line, before the pressure relief valve to dump pressure, it bypasses oil around the relief valve.

The solenoid/relief valve is all one piece with three ports on the HMMWV, the solenoid valve is normally open(redundancy, so if it looses voltage/fails, it dumps pressure and the fan comes on). One problem, the HMMWV is 24v, and I think the civilian H1 were also.

But you can build it, its simpler than I can explain it. Basically you need a normally open(flowing) hydraulic solenoid valve, pressure relief valve, three "T"s and some hose/clamps.

Then just a temp switch of your choice screwed into the engine(and a manual override switch inside of course,lol)
