Hi guys,

Buddy of mine is headed to LA for work. He's thinking of driving his 6.5 down there, but looks like he's going to have to depend on local mechanics cuz his new job is probably going to keep him hopping and he won't have time for wrenching.

I previously posted asking about smog checks in California - it appears that it is visual only. He doesn't have a lot of mods, so I think he's OK.

Who is down in the LA area, or do you guys know any good wrench shops in that area?

-Rob :)

I am North of Los Angeles. CA is 1997+ years for inspections. Its not just visual

Thanks Buddy. I believe my friend has a 95 OBD 1. Does that make it exempt?

Do you know any good wrench turners in the Los Angeles area?

-Rob :)

His truck would be emissions inspection exempt.

Not sure about wrench turners anywhere. A local diesel injection shop near me, Stanadyne dealer, was very knowledgable about repair procedures, but wouldnt say they are great for diagnostics or performance. Where I lived South of LA before I couldnt find a diesel injection shop.

I dont trust anyone pretty much. As long as he can diagnose, with help if needed, then wrenching isnt hard to come by. Anything timing or PCM or turbo related he can take a wine tasting trip and visit me, assuming truck is running :)

I am in Fullerton, North Orange County right at the border of LA County.

You won't need to smog a '95.

I work 100% on the road, home weekends. Pretty much fried on the weekends from the work and the travel. I have GMTD Scan Tech.

Big T You ever stop by Orange County Diesel? Do they do 6.5 work?

Nope. First I've heard of them. I've pretty much become self sufficient, thanks to this here board.

Just came in from working on the boat diesel. I believe my dash panel is shot. I can jump start the engine across the starter solenoid, but can't shut it down w/o using the fuel cut off on the injection pump. Power to the plug to the ignition switch, but no go. Ordered new ignition switch. Although the invoice shows it's in the shipment, it's not there. Not happy over this. Have a friend from the East Coast who was to fish a Club Mako Tournament next weekend. He's a tarpon expert on the fly gear and wants the Men's IGFA 16#tippet record for mako shark. Very doable record, just not on my boat this year.:nonod:

Diesel Tune in Downey CA.

Dave Davis answers the phones, Mike Calandra is the owner and head mechanic.
They have been doing 6.2's and 6.5's forever, and Mike really knows 6.5's well.
Not cheap, though...in fact, in my experience, they'll gouge you a little, given a chance.
