whats wrong with the rv style cam? build would be aiming for low-mid range power, towing as well as offroading, and if i can get up to 15mpg that would be great. fuel economy is 11-12mpg normal driving before the carb needed to be rebuilt, 35x15" tires with stock gearing and a th400.
I'll start up a thread on it when i get back to the states and begin the build, dont want to thread jack.
they seem to be way to short duration, and poor lifts,,Ive tryed them and couldn't get any real power, and gas mileage sucked, remember your 50-100 cubes more then stock,,best combo was
1.454 2 or 4bolt block [2 bolt blocks work great on the street]
2.open chamber oval port heads, with real mild pocket porting [you could use edelbrock aluminum oval port heads too]
3.1/4'' over stroker crank[makes 20-30% more torque]
4.3/8'' bolt rods [just shot-peened and arp bolts] no need for big rods, your not going to twist it that hard
5.cam -hyd roller ,230-240 dur at .050,,lifts of .530-.550,,split durations are usually better down low [if money is tight just hyd] I'll get out a few cam cards and post them
6.comp 9.5-1 or as much as 10.5-1 if you use aluminum heads
7.780 cfm Holley carb
8.dual-plane aluminum intake
9.gm hei distributer
10.1 7/8'' tube headers and a real 2-1/4 to 2 1/2'' full exhaust with a cross-over [need to be ceramic coated]
i can give way more info if you need,,you can go with fuel injection but it gets costly as ive use merc marine e.f.i. units [factory gm is race only] with after-market wiring [factory merc stuff douesen't use o2 sensors] and custom computers [its worth 3-4 mpg's],
