Don't you get an ses light 78 from the lack of vacuum at the solenoid? How would one overcome this?

Nope. The PCM doesn't have a vacuum sensor for the solenoid, it just senses whether the boost is working or not. When it's not, it thinks the solenoid is bad.

If you have an 'S' engine and need to keep the vacuum for your EGR, just plug the line coming off the solenoid.

About my 6.5 ...

Thanks. No EGR system. I am becoming a big fan of the promptness of responses on the site. I think I have found a new home! I was also wondering JaFaire. How does your truck pull with the 3.73s? What kind of weight do you pull? I assume you have a 4L80E, but what RPMs are you running at 70MPH. I have no idea what that converts to in KM. We're not that advanced yet. What king of MPG do you get. Oh crap KM. If you let me know in KPH, I can convert. Thanks buddy!

Hi BT - moved your questions to a new thread so we can have one topic going at a time.

Welcome to The Truck Stop! Please take a little time to fill out your signature (click on the link in mine - that'll take you to yours) so we know what you drive!

Now - answers... the 3.73s pulled fine with my 5th wheel, but the truck is not exactly stock. Cooling issues were addressed, upgraded exhaust and airflow modifications, Turbo-Master and Heath chip were added for power and performance, new LP for higher fuel pressure, and TCC (torque-converter-clutch) manual lock ... all that stuff was done to make it work real well. Stock, not so much.

RPMs at 70 mph (~110 kmh) around 2200 - and I never tow that fast. Not towing, I was last getting about 18mpg at that speed.

There is a vacuum sensor on "S" engines with EGR, its the BARO/MAP sensor with extra programming to measure vacuum too. But you dont have that programming with an "F" PCM program.

What JiFaire advised is correct. It wont code DTC78 for that reason, but it will code DTC78 for being outside the PCM program boost curve. If you have stock PCM, then to get most use out of the turbomaster you should install a potentiometer on the boost sensor, known as a boost fooler.

18 MPG towing at 70MPH ?????
I hope that is IMperial Gallons Jim.
I get about 12-13 towing at 65 MPH.
