Hey guys, ive got a front wheel bearing in need of replacement on my 95' 1500. Any one have any opinions on the topic? Ill prob. just get the bearing(s) from napa, but i was just wondering how bad of a job it is. BTW the truck is 4 wheel drive, and i believe is a hub assembly. Thanks for any input

I've done them on my 97 3500, not too bad but some of the bolts on the backside can be a real b*tch. That is, if the 1500 is the same, I think it might be. I have an oversized plow for my front axle GVW so I tend to wear them out prematurely, one thing I have learned is DO NOT skimp and buy the cheap brand bearings, they fail very quickly. I can break an Autozone bearing in two within 12 months. I've had much better luck with the Delco replacements.

Napa will likely rape you for price. I'd check out rockauto or somewhere else.

Not too bad of a job, takes some time. Worse on a dually with the dually extensino hub.

Make sure your torches are full.

I believe the HDs have a more conventional setup with bearings and races. Our 4wd hubs are a sealed unit, I've paid $200-$250 apiece for them.

First of all, thanks for the quick replies. Ive removed the hubs on my 96 2500....and matt b.....x2 on the torches :D That was a bit of a project when all i thought i was doing was removing rotors.

As for the truck im working on now, im assuming the hub assembly is probably different from the 3/4 and 1 tons, but it still should have an inner and outter bearing correct?

The previous owner outfited the truck with a 7.5 fisher plow (a bit too heavy for a half ton IMO) so i want to make sure im not replacing these again next year. What were you guys paying for the delco replacements?

I've never found cheaper than Rockauto.com for Delco units. Don't forget the 5% discount code too. Usually can get delco there cheaper than parts store's cheapies.

Detroit Dan - Maybe you're right on the Hub extension for daully. I remember having to heat the studs to get them to break free, but I forget now. I do know my hub completely snapped in half, and snapped the axle nut clean off too. Only thing holding my tire assembly on was the caliper. I had to put my seatbelt on, knew something was wrong.... Got to Home Depot and walked in front and saw the odd angle the tire was at. Said, not driving this home!

Rock auto seems to only list one bearing for use in the front wheel
TIMKEN Part # SET11
4WD; 7.25" R.G.; Front

$6.34

seems a bit cheap to me, i think im gonna have to pull the hub and do some looking and measuring before i buy anything.

I didnt see any listing for ac delco bearings other than the rear. Matt, where do you plug in for the 5% discount?

Its probably under the brake/hub section.

Put code in where it says "where did you ehar from us"

Delco $233 before 5%... can't beat it

Timkens pretty well priced too. I don't think you'd go wrong wtih Timken, but I'd have to say delco are better.

Delco lasted this long. I doubt a timken will last another 14 years. But will the rest of the truck? :)

His setup is totally differfent with 4x4 and IFS. His hubs will cost him between 200-400 depending.

Actually looking for my 97 C3500, should be close to the same as a HD, right? it seems to have serviceable bearings

$200-400 is going rate for the assembly used in K1500s

For just the bearings im assuming?

I pulled the hub last night without much trouble, and its quite a bit different from my 2500. There is one bearing in the hub and another in the spindle assembly. I think just for price reasons ill go with the timkens.

Now there should be a dust seal on the driveshaft side too correct?

Just for the hell of it i looked at a chiltons book i had for an exploded diagram, but it was useless as usual. Has every design possible, except for the one i have.
