what type of plow?

I have a 7 1/2ft Western with wings that I'm getting rid of. I'm done with plowing. I'm going to put part of the money from selling the plow towards a transmission.
 
I got a western uni mount if your gonna plow drive ways with a 7' plow your allways gonna be in your wheel tracks and make a mess look at a 8' plow or a least a 7'6"
 
Fisher hands down, unless of course you can justify the Hinker, they are awesome for driveways!!!! Fisher just seems to be more rugged than the rest. Maybe because New England is Fisher country!!!! Seems like Fisher plows aren't very popular anywhere else???? I have a 7'6" HD straight blade on my 2500HD works awesome and isn't too heavy.

No plow on my truck, but I've got a choice of blades depending on the job... 14-20 foot plow blades, buckets with wings... great equipment to use, warm cab and a stereo for between properties to service. Prefer to listen to the loader while I'm actually operating it.

I've got a Fisher myself, but with a crew cab, it's too small. I actually just finished putting a set of Pro Wings on it so we'll see how they work.
 
I bought the plow when I bought my first HD truck, which was an extended cab/short bed, so the 7.5 was recommended. I was leery but decided to trust the dealer. Big mistake. As soon as I moved up to a crew cab, plowing with it got worse. Anything with a tight turn made a mess. I was going to buy an 8 footer, but I decided to give the wings a try. 9 ft with them on, and you can take them off by pulling a couple of pins.
 
Defanately worth trying the wings first I a gree.

When I use do do lots/condo's I almost got them for my 9''er... I've always liked that idea of them.

X2 on the curbs....

Funny that you mention that because of the way they bolt onto the moldboard, you would think that the hardware would be beefy. Just 4 sets of 3/8 bolts for the brackets. I guess, if you hit something, they're designed to tear off the moldboard before ruining it.

We'll see.......
 
I have read about many peopel who weld a cross brace behind it for support.

You also don't have to use both, can just use the inside one, and leave the curb scraping for the main plow if thats your style.

I bet they come in really handy for cutting in and out of parked cars, if doing a parking lot. (Windowing)

Maybe best off leaving the right one off for curb scraping, and the left one on for windowing / size gain.

I have owned a Meyers, Western and Fisher now over the years. Hands down, the fisher Minute Mount setup is the best i have seen for putting on and off the truck. I do miss my Western blade for actually plowing though. I really dont care for the bottom trip edge on the fisher. It tends to grab alot in softer areas and makes a mess.

With that said, if you are plowing mostly pavement, the fisher is probably the best you could use.

I have considered the wings many times, but never broke down and bought them. I was going to put them on when I was doing alot of parking lots. For driveways, I dont really see them being that handy.

Speaking of parking lots... How is a V plow 'better' for parking lots? I really only see a V plow being useful in DEEP snow. And even then really only for breaking the initial path.


All this talk of plowing has got me excited... I cant wait!

A V in scoop mode or a Hiniker Scoop plow or a Blizzard Power plow will make a straight blade look stupid in a parking lot, the average time savings is 30%, just think of how many jobs you can add and still be done on time. I sell everything and have plowed with everything, hands down parking lot favorite plow is a Blizzard 8100 (810) or the Hiniker scoop for moving snow, the Hiniker C plow for driveways is also super fast. Long country drives are great for a V. It alll in what you plow.

I've never plowed with a V, but this is my thoughts.

The V Can also Invert, creating a scoop. So Moving piles becomes a possibility, as does 'picking up' the line that always gets left behind from a straight blade.

I think its advantages are greater in parking lots, as driveways are usually narrow enough to never leave a trail.

They seem like more maintanance, more to break, and not as strong.

I'm happy with my straight blade.
 
For what your doing get an 8' of your choice. Fisher, Western, Blizzard, Hiniker and Boss are all good plows. I would go with Blizzard though
