What mpg does the CUCV 6.2 1 ton get?

Not good because of the gearing. I think mine gets around 12-13. If it had overdrive and didn't weigh so much it would be better. My old 91 Jimmy got around 19-20. My 6.2 van got 23+

Not really. The 6.2 is a dog. When I have the plow on with firewood in the back it's kinda of a slug. Turbo will fix that...

Any 6.2 with a TH700R4 will get good mileage. The Ones with the TH400 will suffer but even my CUCV M1008 at 10-12 mpg is still way better than an 86K30. That would probably get 4 mpg comparably.

I wouldn't but then again I wouldn't run it in anything so I'm biased. Atleast the Ip's are cheap and easy to swap if you burn one up.

If your going to go with a turbo, get rid of the slug engine and 3 spd tranny. Just change everything like in mine. I have a 6.5 turbo out of a HUMMV with a 4 spd OD tranny and larger injectors, 4" straight exhaust. The sound of the turbo spooling up is sweet! I have plenty of power, pull a GN trailer with a 12K load get 10 mpg, without the trailer I get 13 mpg but I can run at 80-85 and chirp the tires into 2nd! It does take some firewall modification.

That makes no sense. a 6.2 and 6.5 are the same engine.Any question...see Bill Heaths Bonneville. It's a 6.2 lower end IIRC. The only real difference IS the turbo. Why change an engine when all he needs is a turbo ? The tranny I agree. I am looking into an NV4500 swap to mine as I hate electronics. Why did you modify your firewall ? For the downpipe ? I was gonna run my exhaust on the outside of the frame.
