What is this

Perhaps, some aftermarket/upfitter option as from what I can remember GM only offered the 4 speed auto w/od and the 5 speed manual.

Example: The C3500HD could be had with lots of "upfitted" options like 4wd using any number of axle assemblies 'SAS' even various pto options not offered by GM. It's not far-fetched that someone even put an Allison in some.

My guess is they had a gmt-455 3500hd come in with a 7.3l powerstroke swap done to it. It's not that hard to believe really as the 7.3l powerstroke 1st gen is a pretty badic engine with no intercooler, just a badic engine control system really.

My thought exactly- 6.9 & 7.3 is like the 6.2 /6.5 for us. They just had more changes in the upgrade.

This particuliar plate was only used on the early 7.3 powerstrokes, so they do look quite different than a 6.2/6.5. My bet is the salvage yard is just working off the vin of the truck, and selling a part off of it.

Right.
I didnt mean it to sound like they are interchangeable patterns. Just meaning that they are basic design and not bunches of nonsense so they lend themselves to transplants well, like the 6.2 and early 6.5s.

In which case they also paid attention to details in the swap, as photo #4 in the listing shows the donor service truck with the 6.5 vented front bumper on it.

Did a quick check and found that the GM transmissions can be adapted to almost any gas or diesel engine that will fit into most vehicles.
