What is the benefit of this over the single stat housing?

Thanks guys, I thought maybe I was seeing things.

The black ring is rubber, it seals the Tstat to the housing. My original's rubber ring came off and blocked the bypass. That's why I replaced it.

Here's the one from the link

This one is for a single t-stat housing for a 95- as this is what the GM one I bought looked like for my 95 housing.

Leroy, some time back I had told you that the AC Delco Tstat I have is different from yours. I finally found a pic of it.

This is what came out of mine and what GM gave me over the counter.

This one looks like it may be for a 96 housing as I believe they still had a blockable bypass port in them. The dual T-stat housings don't use the bypass blocking plunger on teh bottom though as teh bypass port is moved in them to the bottom instead of behind the T-stat.

OK I see that, I meant same, as in its a delco unit and functions the same. A direct replacement. The black portion was just a difference in contruction.

So here is the deal like Raleigh said.....But it seems the Dual T Stat, ACD# 131-103 GM# 12559336 is a 190* and NOT 195*

Also they have the (Jiggle Pin) Bypass
ACDELCO Part # 131103 {#12559336}

Just sayin'

The factory application is a 195 degree AC-Delco, but there are 190 degree "dual spring" replacements like Leroy has. They dont look the same obvisouly, different construction.

I prefer the 195 AC-Delco, but you really have to search to find them. Part #: 12T45E

Not only would it matter the size of the t-stat opening but the size of the fitting and hose to the radiator is the same, so as long as the single can support that it doesnt matter. And if the dual is sending a good amount of hot water back to the block its loosing flow to the radiator. One way to keep your dual setup cooler is to restrict the bypass, either make a restricted fitting or tap a fitting and thread a restriction in there, or maybe you can even put one in the short hose between the housing and the water pump.

Having two could create actually complicate the flow and create turbulence. No point in anyone with a 95 and older to switch to dual. The duals may help keep the engine warmer for better economy, but then we could also just find a non-blocking single stat for the single to achieve the same thing. It may have been emissions related going to the duals.

Oh cool, sweet, good source for them. That is the correct one.

The other 190 degree stat pictured must have been from another site.

You are right though, they are very hard to find. Alot of vendors say they have them, but dont. I even have had to back order them when Im tring to get more after running out. Have about 5 now.

Its the 5 degrees and the design. if someone has one of both could compare opening sizes. It takes hp to pump water all the way through the radiator, so the less you have to with a warmer T-stat you can save some fuel. And when the fan kicks in its taking HP to cool down the engine too. You can also get better more complete combustion at low fuel rates with a warm block. That why setting it up with a 195 t-stat, and the fan clutch to kick in at 210 is good for fuel economy.
