What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Finally got the braided stainless brake hoses installed and my wife helped with bleeding the brakes, this after undergoing eye surgery this am to address issues from prior cataract replacement surgery back in January. The surgery went perfect and the front end on the ‘99 Suburban is very tight. It does need an alignment as I guess position on tie rods using a paint pen to mark the old ones and measuring against the new ones. I have an appointment for an alignment tomorrow afternoon. The front end is now tighter than it has been since I owned it.

A friend let me borrow his and another friend let me use his alignment rack to compare. It wasn't as accurate as his rack but pretty darn close. A lot of it is the user, it is much slower than the rack but especially for someone like me it would allow me to do it at home. Closest alignment machine to me is about 25 miles away. In fact it was the one I used.

There is an alignment rack over here at Tire Rama.
I always used to use TR for alignments.
Over several years I have called about getting an alignment done and their reply has been that the alignment specialist injured his hand and they dont have a technician to get the job done.
I’m thinking maybe I should go out and apply. Dont know how I would do with the condition of my feets, legs and back but I guess it wouldnt hurt to make a run at it.

They have a level 2 model which incorporates separate (from the phone) sensors in the Gyraline device which makes it more accurate than the level 1 model. Level 2 also works with Android phones, but it is priced in the $300+ range.

Front left caster is -0.4 and the spec range is 2.0 to 4.0. Tech says the bolt is stripped and not moving the washer. So new bolts are on order. Also may have to punch the knock-outs.

They said it would likely pull to the left, but it does not. It actually drives quite nice.

I purchased a new gm crank sensor for the 6.5 diesel this morning.I have the 6.2 with the DS4 but these sensors are going at a good price and seller has quite a few left.

I ordered an OEM GM Upper Control Arm Knockout Removal Tool and once again Walmart had lowest price. Autozone was next best on price at $24.99.

After experiencing 3 no-starts the past couple weeks, all of which were cured by jiggling or moving the shifter, I replaced the neutral safety switch today at 405.2K miles. Most of the DIY videos showed rust belt trucks with guys using torches to get the old switch off. Sorry, but ours is a western truck and it just took a pry on each side. Job was done in less than 20 minutes. New one was an aftermarket switch which cost $26 vs the $127 Toyota wants for theirs. It works perfectly. Picture is of the old one.

Back in December, lawn tractor shot a rock through the passenger side quarter panel window on my ‘99 Suburban. Took it in to get it replaced, but they got the wrong glass. Told them I was not accepting it, but it needs to stay in as it is parked outside and we were leaving the next day for Montana and there was all sorts of rain forecasted for SoCal. I would bring it back for replacement in January. Brought it back in yesterday and this time they got it right.

Next on the 2014 4Runner is to replace the front sway bar bushings after detecting movement while I was under there doing and oil change. Mevotech bushings should arrive today. Hoping this eliminates the noise I was hearing while off-roading and hitting pot holes.

Pulled the 95 brown truck out from under the pecan tree where it's been parked for quite some time today. had to take off early from work to tow my son's car home from his work. had the truck on a little battery maintainer all this time. opened the hood and while removing the charger I noticed one of the batteries was luke warm and the other was cold to the touch. HMMM.... might have a battery going south. she fired right up though cranked a little weak. Blew off all the leaves with the compressor and cleaned off the windshield. used it to pull his car home and it did it all like a champ.

pulled it out to make room for his car since I doubt his will be an easy fix. Not to mention I need to have a looksee at the black one since I have been smelling raw diesel when I park and get out right around the hood area and drivers door. not seeing anything leaking or dripping but the yee-ole sniffer is picking it up. I suspect maybe an injector return line might be seeping, but since I have the brown truck ready to roll, I figured might as well rotate them tires some LOL
