Are these worth anything? Boat anchors? :rolleyes5:

"I have two 6.5 GM diesel engines. One has a spun bearing on the crank and the other has an oil leak through the block. block is not cracked or broken, just has a porosity that lets oil leak through when warm. They are booth long blocks with the heads. No pumps or injectors. I was told they both had low miles on them. I was going to make one good engine out of the two. I never got around to doing that. They would make good cores or like I said you could make one good engine. "

Since they both have problems with the block , I'd say that they aren't worth much more than the heads. $150-200 each? I bought complete parts engines for $3-400. The blocks were known bad but had turbo and ip.

How do you spin a bearing with low miles? That one is junk. :BDH:

Oil leak is patchable, But why go through the trouble when better parts are available?

Depends, the block with the spun bearing you'll need to find out if it's a main or a rod bearing. Rod bearing = replace the crankshaft, not a big deal. Main bearing = align bore and hone, big deal, kinda expensive. But, if the blocks not cracked on the mains, worth keeping either way.

The block with the oil leak issue is probably more of an anchor, just strip the crank and rods/pistons and get rid of the shell (the block itself), keep the goodies inside.

A new aftermarket 506 block can be had for less than $ 1500 CDN .
You got to substract the cost of repairing the old blocks (if possible) to get to a proximate value.
