Well, been at work since 7 this morning and i went to leave about 7 tonight. Welp, the ol starter stuck on yet again, i took the key out of the ignition and she stayed chuggin, no gp's so the engine was just cranking, not running and cranking (about the only time where no gps was a good thing)... Well there is nothing scaryer than hearing your starter stick on and not shut off. First part of the story i i think my ignition is going bad because the accessory position doesnt work, and it has started sticking on for about a week now. I called and got and appointment for this saturday to get a new ignition put in. Well she couldnt last.. So the only way i could get her to shut down was i grabbed the negative battery cable an ripped it off. Then i did it to the other side and she shut down. SHe is done till the new engine gets in her. Im done nursing it along, im sick of this crap, working the insane hours i am right now i dont have time for this...:icon_bs: So this will get my ass in gear to get that engine in. SO i think i fried another starter, so now im on 5... SOrry had to vent a little, i was so mad i left a beauty mark in the right front fender (im replacing it anyway, rotted out...) Well i see the tow truck pullin in, gotta go load it up...

could be bad battery, sometimes low voltage will cause a marginal bendix to lock in run. as you said, starter switch possible. thought about new bolts, starter bolts breaking seems to be a problem.

Damn man... if it makes you feel any better i'm soaked (again) and been working in the rain for 16 of 22 days so far this month.... Forget the tools, I'm starting to rust.

Yep. I changed the bolts when I replaced the missing rear bracket. You don't want to deal with that .
Make sure you have that bracket to. You sure the starters fried ? NAPA and most places will bench test it for free although that doesn't always mean anything if the guy behind the counter doesn't know how to use it. He told me two of mine were dead as I watched him hook it up wrong. I "bench" tested them myself in a vise with cables and a batt.
Now that I think about it that happended on a 6.2 and I was cranking the crap out of it. The soleniod gets hot and sticks.

Man thats a pain in the @ss. You had better have quick reaction skills when something like that happens. Hope you get everything all taken care of. Sounds like a good night for a few beers!

Tell me about it. This weather SUCKS. We have a nursery/landscaping buisness and a small farm, and i tell ya, you cant get anything done. No sales, everything is too muddy, and we sure as heck havent been able to make any hay! Not a good year here in the NE for anyone who works outside. It will get better soon, just for now we have to pretend we live in seattle:rolleyes5:

On a positive note, your working, a lot of people are not, and wish they were.

The truck can be fixed, an inconvenience yes, but a major problem not really in the scheme of things.

I visited the cancer hospital today, it gives you perspective on life. I don't have problems that are that major; as long as we are healthy.

Go home, relax and enjoy the minor problems we have. Venting is good and glad you did.

You have a vaild point. It's very easy to loose sight of how good we really do have it sometimes. I flip over an oil prce change but then park my truck across from the soup kitchen and realize how lucky I am.

Thanks for the supprot guys!!. Well got her towed home. The starter that is on it currently is a chinese ebay job, i was going through so many of them i just started buying throw away starters. Tonight im going to start working on the project again, have to do a few things on the stang to make it somewhat reliable, even though the oil pressure is low.... Yes the block is a 599 block, it is rusty but mechanically perfect condition. Too bad she (missy) is so far away, i would sell it to her almost complete for pretty cheap.... Im pretty sure its the switch, it has had problems since i got it, the accsy. position doesnt work any more, so i think it was falling apart inside. Now the locksmith has to come to my house before i start the new engine. Usually when you turn it to start and let go it stick son but you quickly bring the key back to off it would cut the power. There is not starter bracket on it, the hole in the block is crusty and havent had time to get it cleaned out. But im done driving her till the new engine is in, so this block is safe.... Let me tell you i about crapped my shorts (i mean pants, cant wear shorts at work) when that starter stuck on and i pulled the key out of the ignition. It felt like it took me an hour to rip the two neg battery cables off the batteries, but tell yah tha truth i think i went bionic and ripped them of in about two tugs a piece. Took me prolly ten seconds... Kinda beat up my hand, but it got the job done.... Luckily the new engine came with both negative battery cables so it wont cost me anything to fix them. Now i have some good guage wire for other projects. The tow truck driver was the same guy that towed it before a few months ago when it had the cylinder misfire codes on every one... Just to the point where i need to just get all the stuff replaced, so i dont have to deal with things breaking every other day...

Yeah, im going to get the AC delco one remaned at a starter store. So everything will be new(starter and ignition switch). I dont care, the more new stuff on it the better anyways, im going to keep her for a long time....

The ignition switch is very easy to replace on a 94. It's on top of the steering colume under the dash. Not shure what you would need a locksmith for?

In case your don't realize it. The ignition switch is not located in the part where you put the key. There is a key part where you insert and turn the key which is joined by a linkage to the actual ignition switch that does the electrical stuff.

This is the actual electronic part. Your's may not look exactly like this as this is for a '98.

So wait a tick.... What do you guys think is worng?? Im talking about replacing the key ignition, where you stick the key in and turn it.
Little story:
----When i first bought the truck when you turn the key towards you (in the drivers seat)(which is an accessory, correct??) there was no power being energized to the radio (which should operate in the accessory key setting).. WHen you stick the key in and turn it towards you it will go into the accessory "slot", but no power is getting to anything, the truck thinks its still off. But now i figured out how to get it to work... YOu need to use force and push they key into the column and turn it rather quickly towards you and it kind of clicks, then energizes the radio. SO i have been using it like this ever since i got it. I did not know there was a second part to the system.... Does anyone have any information on that part and what it does to inform me?? Maybe it isnt my ignition key switch.... Maybe its the actual ignition module.. But why does the force keything work for the accessory?? Is this ignition thing in the column?? Please let me know....

I called napa on the ignition module thing, they said 11 bucks. Does that sound right??? WHy is it so cheap? should i get it?

the ignition is 2 parts. one it the tumbler where you put the key in,and there's the actual switch attached to it either direct or by linkage. the cecond part is what's going wrong. as for the quick turn to make it work. my guess it might be just enough to push it over the 'notch' to get it to work.

Thank you, does anyone know if napa makes a decent one? Or where should i buy one? It is like a napa thermostat vs. delco or robert shaw question.... How hard is it to replace??

Back on the key/ tumber switch, i searched on the web, really any ol person can do it when you dont have an air bag... When i put the new turn signal switch in there i could have done it easily, i was right there, all i had to do was undo a bolt and the key assembly would have pulled out... Im glad i know its that easy now, im not going to call a locksmith for that job anymore. But first we will replace the switch module....
