weird smoke problem with 6.2

Sticking injectors or air in the system. Time is what makes air worse. Sticking injectors are a source of 'air'. pop testing a set only costs ~$70.00

well, got pissed off at the truck, tonight I pulled the engine and tranny, hauling the truck to the scrapyard tommorow, Im gonna put this engine into a 1976 chevy 2 wheel drive shortbox to make my ECONIMIZER truck. still would like to fine out this smoking problem though...

If it was air then why would after glow of the glowplugs cause the engine to immediately run smooth?

Engine is running on 7 of 8 cylinders driving the cold one. Then injection system is able to prime and start pushing fuel to the dead cylinder. The glow plug has cooled off from the airflow of a running engine and there is no longer enough heat to light the fuel. Addling glow plug heat starts the cyl firing. GM uses afterglow in case a cyl does go cold and start smoking.

Test injectors, all of them, then look for air leaks from the fuel filter, hoses, throttle shaft seal on IP etc.

OK, tonight I removed all the fuel injectors and tested the glow plugs by looking at them while powered up by the harness to eliminate a possable failed glow plug or wire. they all glowed fine and even.

Sounds like glow plugs buddy, my 6.2 did the same, then i replaced all the glow plugs, fuel filter, and oil change, and now its fine. its a easy thing to do and will save you in the end. best of luck!
