We had a run-away twice on the 1994 K3500. Wife had it happen to her and then drove

There is a reason for fuel shutdown solenoid on top of the IP, in event of PMD fail that shuts off fuel to IP, another possibility is broken fuel delivery solenoid armature shaft on end of the IP fuel distribution head, and what I suspect if PMD swap did not correct the issue a sticking or broken armature solenoid allowing ruaway fuel delivery.

Now if the runaway is because of excess oil blowby feeding the engine even with the key off and IP isn't delivering fuel, you have to shut off air to the turbo/engine best way you can, CO2 discharged into the turbo intake will also stop the runaway not dry chemical powder unless there is absolutely nothing else available; CO2 is what you want to use not best way to shut it down but causes less damage than dry chemical extinguishers will.

And so, the flight systems module is the one to get ? ? ? ?
Yes. Flight Systems/Diapco (same unit, just rebranded) is the one to get. The gray Stanadyne still isn't up to snuff compared to the FS unit, although it is (debateable) better than the series of OEM black Stanadyne PMD's it replaces.

It's up for grabs. From recent history Flight Systems seems to be the hands down winner.

I was pretty soured on Flight Systems for quite a while. I had a few of FS PMD's when they were crap.

I've actually had my best longevity out of the old black Standynes.

Mostly because the new Flight Systems haven't been on any of my vehicles for as long as some of the black Standynes lasted

Since the PMD's no longer have to attach to the pump, I have always failed to understand why they keep making them so they can. I would think they could make a better unit if they lost that requirement

The heck of it is, I do not know which 94 K3500 I made this thread about.

If the Stanadyne currently on My truck ever fails, I`ll be trying an FS unit next.
I do have a Dorman unit for a backup. After the warranty on the Stanadyne is expired, I`ll install the Dorman then use the ST unit for a backup.

Upon going back and reading the thread, I determined it's the 5 speed 94 I have now. The other 94 had 4L80E Automatic transmission. I do not even remember all this. I do remember having WOT on the 98 Suburban.

The Dorman unit is one of the rebranded with their name Flight Services-made PMD units.

Bad luck on your part buying a Flight Service at that time. They had a manufacturing lot with a defect that caused a failure. FS quickly corrected the defect and honored their warranty. Their units have been pretty much bulletproof since.

For mechanics who don't know about extension cables and remote heat sinks and love to charge their customers the labor to R&R the PMD on the pump? Why do reman IP's come with a PMD mounted on them?

I believe that to be incorrect. As far as I knew Flight Systems are made in the USA and Dormans are definitely made in China. I have heard bad reports on Dorman performance and longevity - spotty
Then Dorman must be using a CKO of the FS unit, because the cases are essentially identical except for the printing. If that's the case then it is news to me because originally the early Dormans were rebranded FS and sold about $30 more through auto parts stores than buying the FS directly or through authorized dealers.
