Water logged transplant to the Buckeye ?

I went out briefly just a little bit ago to do a quick check on the plugs. I checked from the glow body to the glow blade, I didn't get any kind of a reading. Kind of hard to watch the meter when your watching what your hands are doing, but if the meter did move it was maxed out at the other end of the meter. If I go from the glow wire connecter to the glow body I get about half an ohm so the meter must be working. As soon as the paint dry's on the battery box's I'll put it back together with two good batteries and see what happen's.

Well the glow wire and the glow body are both grounded when the controller isnt powering them, so thats why you get low ohms between them. If from glow blade to glow body the meter pegs then they are bad, too high resistance

X2 I have started mine at 200 RPM last winter when it extremely cold and when my alt went screwy last week and I was left running 5-6year old batteries w/o recharge i cranked over at 100 rpm but it took forever.

The way my meter works buddy is it will only register when you are using the prob's ,meaning if the meter isn't being used the needle is not on 0 it is resting on the other end of the scale so I really can't see what the glow is reading cause it look's like the needle hasn't moved I need to get a digital meter it would make life easier. So like I say if I'm checking grounds & other thing's the meter seem's to be working ok.

If its not reading then its like an open circuit which would say the glow plug has like a megaohm of resistance, or Overload (OL) or Open on digital meter.

So then your saying what you have already said the glow's are dead. It Suck's when you buy a vehicle and other than the drive home its your pocket already and I hav'nt even had it on the road yet I hope the alt. is ok maybe the new battery will straighten that out, I think a phone call to the PO is in order.

Well that's what happen's when you do the E-bay shuffle, thank's Buddy.

Looks like I have one glow plug working. So how does AC Delco 60G's stack up against the Bosch Duraterm? I see Rock Auto has the Bosch for around $8 but there will be shipping on that, Autozone has the Delco's for $10.

Mark

The AC60Gs are alright, especially if you get a PCM reflash or a manual override for extended glow time. They have self regulation and are not known to swell like older AC delco models, not a bad choice at all.

I would go with the Bosch, and I think Napa or others can get the Bosch for like $9 a piece. I got my Bosch on Amazon for $8 I think, and since I have one of them accounts I had free shipping. I had 6 of my 8 plugs bad after putting Autolites in for just a year.

speaking from someone in cold weather the duraterms are great, especially with the stock pcm and no extra glow control. worth the extra $$

I asked Autozone & Advance about Bosch and although they both carry Bosch they don't handle their glow plugs, strange.
Rock auto has them for like $7.47 ea. I think the total with shipping was $62.11 for eight of them, I'll have to check out Amazon.

While I was waiting for the paint to dry on the battery tray's I figured I'd clean my starter cable. When I found out I had to pull the starter I almost said screw it, but having the batteries out I figured there wouldn't be a better time than now so I did.
And it's a good thing ,they had a section of heater hose taped to the cable .I took the hose off and underneath the hose was a section where the cable was about half burned through and I mean the wire too, that had to be a serious melt down.

Where do you guy's run the positive cable? To me it didn't look like there was a good way to run it , man it is tight around the starter. I have a new cable that's 5 ft long that I bought for my Mack ,I thought I could route the cable a different way but the cable is 1/O and I don't think I can squeeze it between the heat shield and the starter. So off to the part's store I go.

Mark

I know there are a few people that have put in 2/0 starter cables in so its possible. bk95td had done it I believe if you want to ask him.

2/O is what was in there and that was tight up against the heat shield ,that 1/O I have is just to heavy to stick up in there I tried to fit it a couple of times.

Figure $2000.00 to recondition any used vehicle you don't buy at a dealer with a warranty. People are not giving up a perfectly running vehicle in this economy... Even before now stuff gets put off for future sale.

I hear what your saying WW,It's a gamble when you buy something when you can't look at it and drive it before you buy it.

Trouble with these little 6.5's is there put together with all kind's of little hand grenades that can go off on you at any time, and that even happen's to people that are use to these motor's.
