HI
on the 6.5 turbo diesel do you connect the waste gate hose to vacuum pump or inlet mainifold.

Should connect to a selenoid mounted on the drivers side rear valve cover.

thanks for reply.
I forgot to mention that the 6.5 gmc diesel turbo was standard not electronic version.
The engine is fitted in a winnebago elandan 32rq and several vacuum tubes are disconnected and am trying to find out where the waste gate tube goes and also the one from the gearbox.
Is it the inlet manifold or the vacuum pump holding tank.

On my 1995 the vac pump main vacuum supply is hooked up to an electric solenoid and that is controlled by the computer. The solenoid is tubed up to the wastegate actuator that maintains the desired manifold boost pressure.

I added the vacuum schematic, your vehicle may or may not have the EGR emissions gas recirculation valve.

Yours may be slightly different from your description, vacuum holding tank.

There are some van overseas that have the same thing, IIRC, it was Australia.
I am not sure if those people are regulars here. May be one of the mod here can help you.

Have you tried the RV forum?

The vehicle does not have a computor the engine is just basic no electronics.
Someone put the engine in before it left the states I have found out it is a 6.5td.
I am now told that the gate servo was connected direct to vacuum tank also the gearbox modulator servo.
This does not seem correct as the engine would be on full boost all the time surely?
I dont know the effect it would have on the gearbox.
I need to get this correct as it appears that these engines can be destroyed if things are not done correctly.

Ramsey B,

Can you take a moment to fill out your signature so we know what flavor of 6.5 we are dealing with ?

Yours does not sound like the standard variant we deal with here, normally the WG is controlled by a modulated WG solenoid, or a mechanical spring control.

There is an aftermarket device known as a Turbo Master sold by Bill Heath www.heathdiesel.com that eliminates need for all vacuum control of the WG. Some folks make their own that sort of work, but require a boost gauge, the Heath TM is plug & play set it to spring length dimensions in instructions and you can safely drive with it installed.
