Waist gate question

Hi gentleman, my name is Eric, last year I bought 1985 humvee that came in buckets, and of course it needed an engine, I found a healthy running 6.5 TD off of 2001 h1, but my humvee didn't have any wiring to make the electronic injection pump work, and also the waist gate that would of run on boost sensors, so I end up converting it to mechanical turbo,
However now it's time to make the waist gate work properly, one of hummer forum members who is also a member here recommended to post in here and ask you guys what's the best option,
Is it something I can build ? I am tool frindly and have the time but I don't know what's needed,

Can you guys please walk me through the steps ?

Thank you very much

Eric

Hey Eric, glad to see your signed up here.

Hopefully someone here can help with thread links.
Folks, I lead Eric here in hopes someone can posts them on:

1. A link to thread on building your own Turbo master (self explanatory). Afaik, Leroy does not sell them.
2. How to turn up fuel screw on db pump.
(He has a n/a 6.2 pump on a turbo 6.5)
I tried describing going through side plate, I hate the idea of possible run away from goofing the governor going through the top, but maybe I am too conservative?

You all know how I talk too much and still have a hard time describing what I mean. Then suck at finding threads I know are here.

Will I couldn't say enough thank you for all the help and knowledge,
I'll be playing with the old injection pump I have that is out of the engine to practice before I do the actual pump on the engine,

Where do you guys hook up the boost gauge line ?

Eric

That was the plans that I went off of, except I made my own bracket to mount it all to. It works very well.
On Mine, the boost gauge tube is threaded into the pipe from the turbo over to the upper intake manifold, drilled and threaded into the upper intake manifold cover pipe.

I have seen military versions of mechanical waistgate but it looks like spring is inside that round thing that is bolted on the side of the turbo, because no spring was visible.

I guess I have seen those on the older trucks but just never paid attention to them.
You might try an auto salvage and see if they have an older 6.5 in the yard You could get one off of.
I do think that the older units were mounted differently too, more on a horizontal plane than a vertical plane like the newer 6.5s.
Someone with more info on that might post in and answer that question.

The older trucks were a ~6 PSI spring can and not adjustable. One way to turn up the fuel: http://assets.bankspower.com/manuals/430/96292-SidewinderTurbo-v2-web.pdf

The other is through a triangle shape window on the driver side of the pump where a plate is held on by 2 screws.

A 6.2 pump maxed out will deliver slightly more than a stock setting 6.5 turbo pump. Maybe enough for the GMx turbo, but, nothing to write home about.

Hey guys, thanks for helping him on this. Ive been on phone with him. He is a hands on guy, does his own fabrication so built his own and it looks good so far.

He put a 6.2 n/a db2 on a ds4 hummer engine and had not turned up the fuel yet. He has a extra old db2 on the shelf, so is now making second take on a video so there is a good description and visualization available. Love it when people learn and then try to make it easier for the next guy!
