My dad is supposed to be giving me his 04 VN 800 and one of his cars this weekend (long story :()

I guess the bike has just shy of 1300 miles since he hardly ever rode it, I know it's in good shape because it sat in the corner of his garage under a car cover, but I'm just curious if it will still be okay after sitting so long.

About the same time he bought that, I got my 04 VN1600 MS and rode the crap out of that for two years before selling it because it sat in my garage more than I rode it near the end. I can say from experiece that Kawis are excellent bikes, but I've never ridden this thing. Has anyone ever ridden one of these small twins? Will I get run over in traffic on it?

TIA!

Naw, you wont get run over in traffic. The VN800 will run away from 99% of the 4-wheel vehicles out there. We ride with guys with 600 V-stars and other than being noisy as hell do to the higher RPM's, they keep up just fine.

Tim

P.S. An 800 aint a small twin in my book. Now an old 535 Virago? THATS a small twin.

I would change the fluids and ride it. Hopefully it was started every once in a while, while sitting. It wont have the power of your Road King, but i think you will be surprised.

I picked the bike up yesterday... it's actually an 01 (I was misinformed) with 396 miles. It has a dead battery which was to be expected, half a tank of old gas, the front brake is spongy, and needs a bath because it's covered in cobwebs. Didn't play with it yesterday but I might jump it with the truck just to see if it'll run tonight. Off to the bike shop this weekend for plugs, an oil filter, and a battery. Of course I still need to get the title switched into my name, register it and look into insurance.

I really don't want this thing, but may just keep it to ride and save some miles on the truck occasionally since the price was right. Will post up some pics later.

Tried to start it last night until the float stuck on the carb and gas began pouring out of every overflow tube. Nothing stinks more than nasty, old, stale gasoline. Needless to say it didn't start.

It'll have to wait until later on this weekend when I get a chance to buy some stuff to attempt to mess with it again.

Grady, do me a favor, open the fuel filler, and look inside the tank with a flashlight and tell me what the inside of the gas tank looks like, drain all of the gas out of it first, you can use this gas to kill any fire ants you have around.....look good in the gas tank and let me know what you see.
