Vacuum Pump ??

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and have been doing a lot of searches for vacuum pumps. I have a loud "ticking" sound coming from mine. When I take the belt off the noise goes away. So, I took off the vp pulley, put on a shorter belt and the noise is gone.

I noticed the vp pulley has a small crack across the middle of it. Is it possible it's just a bad pulley? My a/c has been working great, even with the "tic" sound. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I am not sure if the H1 is different but for most of us, the vp does not operate the AC.

It can only be the pulley but the only way to find out is to test it.
 
i think he is just reassuring us the tic isn't coming from the a/c pump...

a crack in the pulley can make a ticking noise, the pump could also be shot. I would just ditch the vacuum pump and put a turbo master on it.
 
It was my understanding that the vacuum pump had something to do with the blower motor for the a/c. Ever since I removed the pulley , no cold a/c and the air won't blow through the vents, only through the defrost.

Called Chevy about the pulley and of course, it has been discontinued so, I have to order one or find one at a junkyard.

Does the turbo master just control boost? Are there any other benefits?

Height is likely uneven on the cracked pulley thus making the belt tick. Compare prices for a used pulley to a complete rebuilt pump. Not sure if the pulleys can be removed easily. Is this is Hummer specific part with a v-belt? A good source would be a military surplus place like Boyce equipment then.

I would not run a cracked pulley as they can fail. Looks like your AC uses the vacuum so you have to keep it.

The Turbo Master eliminates the vacuum control of the turbo waste gate. It can command enough boost to cause the computer to defuel the engine. You should use it with a tune to prevent this or use a tune without a TM.
 
That is what I am trying to say, make sure the vp does not control the AC because it is a H1 not a regular truck like most of us.

If it does, then you either have to source the pulley or replace the vp.
 
Ive got new vac pumps on the web site. I might have a used VP with a pulley, but will have to confirm, let me know if your interested.

guys, im on dial up right now, so it will take forever for me to look myself, but how much does heath dabble in H1? I remeber there is a hummer tab on his website. he may have something to help out.

I'm going to replace both the pump and the pulley. I don't believe it is Hummer specific maybe just what it controls is. It's located right below the alternator and runs off the serpentine belt.

Exactly, I have to replace it. Driving in Florida this time of year with no a/c is no fun at all.

Thank you very much GM Guy!!! I'm not nearly as familiar with diesel motors as I am gas jobs. So, I googled "Hummer Vacuum Pumps" and came across a thread from this forum, "H1 Hummers are Crap" so, I read that and from there I found the 6.5 section and had to join. . . :D
