My suburburan started to have a wierd noise coming from the engine today, It's coming from the alternator / vaccum side of the motor. I took the belt off and started the motor, no noise. Alternator is new so I'm kinda ruling that out. My thought now is the vacuum pump, I turned it over when the belt was off, no noise, but then again I couldn't spin it a 1000 rpm by hand. I also spun the tensioner pully and alternator, nothing seemed out of the sorts there. Any one else had a pump go out and can tell me what they were hearing or did it just lock up? Any help will be appreciated.

Dont count on a new alternator not being the problem. the last thing changed is usually the newest problem. And Autozone alternators are know to go quick.

You can get most of that stuff and more, right here:

kalecoauto dot com :D

I did a broom stick test on the vacuum pump, definately where the noise is coming from, so now what? I've posted before asking the benifits of removing the vacuum pump and got lots of good answers. My main question now is, what do I need to buy to change this over to a manual wastegate? I would think that a gauge is a must, the kit, and a belt, switch to an A-team turbo? Gauges have been on my wish list since I bought this burb but cash flow hasn't been there, so the A-team turbo isn't in the budget either. I can spring for the boost gauge and cheep panel to mount it, but I'm not sure what else I will need to make the swap. Also, if someone had a good used pump (no bearing noises) I would be inclined to buy that off of them instead and use it until I decide exactly what performace upgrades I want to do. Main thing here is I do not want to get stranded or have a belt come apart and do other damage when this pump decides not to spin anymore.

2 choices by a turbo master and that will be all you need or make your own and then you'll need a guage for adjustment purposes

theoretically it's 99.5 . If it's very far to the parts store I'd buy an assortment and take back what you don't use. Seems like mine was either 100 or 100.5

I paid $130 for it at Autozone but I'm thinking I may have gotten screwed. I have to back there today to look at another pump on their shelf. When I fired up the truck and watched to make sure everything is ok, something fell off the pump, It ran ok, no noises, good vacuum, so instead of taking it back off, I called A-zone and asked them to look at another one to let me know what the hell fell off.

looking at some pictures this morning online, I believe it is the cap from the diaphram housing. Not sure if it's important or not. I have to say though, this burb runs a hell of lot better now with the new pump. I'm not to sure how the wastegate actually works on this truck, but I'm happy with the newfound response from the motor after installing this pump

Generally, parts should not fall off......I'd push for a replacment and maybe a discount for the time and labor lost, as a result of their faulty/damaged product.
