My burb seems to be useing some oil and I am not shure what would be considered a normal ammount of loss. It has been about 1 to 1.5 qts over 3k miles. Just kinda curious if this would be about normal. I mean the thing still runs great and doesnt smoke like its burning oil. I have to powerwash the mud off and make shure there aint a leak but I am curious what would be considered acceptable? I run Rotella t 15-40 and a quart of lucas every oil change ~ every 3k.

Has 111k on it.

Places to look for leaks: Around turbo where the turbo connects to the oil tube going back to the block, down by the block where the turbo drain back tub goes (lower part/front of block), oil cooler/lines in grill, oil cooler lines run back to above oil filter (good place for most leaking), and finally the oil filter adapter o rings could be shot. Once I replaced my oil cooler and oem fittings and relocated my filter from the stock location removing the oil filter adapter I burn "0" oil. None!!!! I also burn no oil between oil changes. I have almost 190k miles.

Well than I think I found where it was going. And well its not good, so here comes my new question.

Where is the best place to buy a 18:1 6.5 long block? I just want a assembled bottom end and the heads, nothing fancy. And ofcourse cheaper would be better. The only one I can think of would be penn but they dont just sell a long block so I geuss I will have to call them.

so,.... where is it going? 1 quart over 3k miles, I think would be normal.
Mine uses just a little under 1 quart in 3k miles....especially if I do a lot of in town driving/idling. Doesn't use any on long trips. Put around 900 miles round trip last year running up to north Ga. and back - didn't use any oil.

I take it you checked all the places recommended here for leaks?

SSDieselsupply sells long blocks - they're not cheap and I have no idea of the quality or who builds them.

Ya well the 1 quart part was normal I thought but than later today I noticed alot of smoke out of the road tube so when I got to work it was ~1/2 qt low so I topped it off and chalked it up to the cold weather. Then when I left work I fired it up and it didnt sound to great but again I chalked it to the cold (25*F) and walked back inside while it warmed up. Well when I went back out I noticed alot of smoke again and a horrible rod knock. So I only live 10 miles from home so I babied it home and it was leaving a whole lot of smoke on the way. Made it home but lost a quart on the way. Still has 40lbs of oil preasure tho.

My 95 used 1 quart every 3000 miles when it was new and with 327,000 miles on it I changed it yesterday with 3700 miles since the last change and it was 1 quart low.

Did some more diging today, either dropped a ring or cracked a piston in half or something of that nature. It blew the dipstick out and was pissing through the cdr and out the dipstick tube.

Looking at the dieseldepot Improved Replacement 6.2 as 6.5 w/20:1 comp. and since I have the truck apart probobly gonna do marine injectors, ATT, full cooling upgrade, fluidampr, heath gl4 and the Dana 60 swap I had planned for the spring. Anny other ideas what I should do while in there.
