im pretty sure my turbo is going. i want to do the hx40 swap an i need to know everything im going to need to do that. the stock turbo wont build more than 6-7psi now where as before this started happening itd be good for 15-18 psi. aslo i need to know any or all mods ill have to do motor wise to make good use of the turbo such as bigger injectors, fuel lines, chip(which i was planning anyway). its a vin f truck. i need a pmd relocation also if anyone knows a good supplier. :agreed:

Of course I am bias as I sell certain products check out my web site when you get a chance. I don't know much about the turbo you asked about, but can almost garranty you wont get any manufactures support. You are going to have to source parts and do some fab work to make it fit.

See the ATT turbo here http://www.leroydiesel.com/Air_filtration.html it is a complete bolt on kit and we are coming up with tunes and other hardware to support it.
I have PMD kits here http://www.leroydiesel.com/Page_2.html I suggest the Flight Systems. It has better warranty and cost less!

What year is your truck, I can also supply you with a tune for the ATT.

Joe, i looked real hard at hx40,hx40ii, and Att turbo. Unless you have ruled out att for a specific reason, i'd suggest a bit of reading about it before you buy. I run off gm6 like vans, so i couldnt get it, and am wishing i could.

All good reviews about Leroy, good cutomer service from him.

You didnt mention exhaust, that makes a huge difference with the 6.5's, might look into that also.

The turbo itself is fine. (Otherwise you would have 0 boost from a locked up or shattered turbo or a bunch of blue smoke from oil leaking past seals.) You may have issues with the vac system that controls the turbo by not being able to hold the wastegate closed. You may have fuel system issues if you have low boost without black smoke from the tail pipe. No fuel = no boost. You could have a plugged exhaust including plugged kitty. You could have blown a doughnut seal on the crossover or have other leaks before the turbo.

Any codes in the computer?

I suggest you pinpoint what is going on before you throw another turbo at it. You would be disappointed if you had a plugged fuel filter and tried another turbo with the same low boost.

No codes being thrown. It'll blow black then nothing. I'm picking up a fuel filter tomorrow just incase but the one that's on it is only about 2 months old. I was thinking about a set of marine injectors also

I didn't rule out the ATT. Price of the Hx40 is good. I ran it in my previous 6.5 and loved it but I had a garage install it because I had no idea what i was doing back then. I know lots of ppl with the Hx40's.

Have you checked for codes or are you just going off of there isnt a cel?

I threw out a filter as an example. I have had bugs in my fuel that plugged the tank sock. Then I had a kinked fuel line. So I have seen lots of fuel issues that show up as peak boost becoming less.

Blowing black for a second till the turbo gets up to speed is normal. Blowing black with low boost for longer isn't. If it is blowing black then your fuel system is likely fine, but, you have issues with boost. Air filter newer?

I would suggest wiring the waste gate closed to see if the control system is the issue. Check for exhaust leaks before the turbo esp. the crossover.

I have run both turbo's.
The ATT is a easy complete kit to install.
The HX40II has you sourcing intake parts to attach to the air filter. (And downpipe adapters, and other parts...)
The HX40II will start to boost slightly lower RPM than the ATT.
The ATT will pull harder to redline.
Both turbo's don't light until you are passing 2K RPM from a WOT dig. Sustained load the smaller turbo will show boost at a lower RPM.
On the rollers the power is the same, but, the HX40II takes 23 PSI to get the power of the ATT at 15 PSI.
My MPG is slightly better with the ATT. ~14 MPG with the HX40II and ~16 MPG with the ATT and BD spool valve setup.

Both turbo's are a better choice than the factory turbo.

Great, let me know if you decide to go ATT, a tune will be eaasy on the 94-95's. A tune is not required for ATT (and Im not running one at the moment) but it will help for sure.
I'll be getting a tune soon.

I have an ATT. The install was pretty easy, it came with all the necessary parts except some hose and clamps for the return, but I had those laying around anyways. I can say that the more I drive it, the more "broken in" it seems to get. Its starting to whistle louder. The exhaust sounds really good. I can't think of one reason I would ever take it off.
I ordered a walbro pump from leroy at the same time I ordered the ATT. I didn't get a chance to install the Walbro for another month after I installed the ATT. I didn't even realize I was having fuel starvation issues until I put the pump on. It made a big difference.

Marine injectors will drain your wallet, worthless, you'll run out of IP before you max out stock injectors.

I would check your vacuum pump and wastegate solenoid, both could be weak. You should get 20 inch's of vacuum at the vacuum pump.
