What about the cold performance of Optimas? And other 'non lead acid' types for that matter?
Anybody tried the AGM batteries.
Everytruck I ever bought with Interstates had slow cranking issues. The ones in the BUrb are less than a year old and my lawnmower has more cranking amps. I personally hate them. The Sears have held up the best for me for the money. I use them in class 8 trucks that get used in below zero weather.
The Optimas are great. Generally COLD is tougher on batterries than heat. As long as the water(electrolyte) levels are kept up to snuff the heat should not hurt them.
Cold kills the flow of electrons in the system.

AGM, Optima, Orbital, Odyssey, delivers more CCA for longer in any weather over the folded cell bats. Cold makes the engine harder to turn and the power from the batteries are lower. You can store them for a year and then start the engine as the self discharge is less.
The vibration resistance is way better esp. for diesel engines or boats.
I am looking at the innards of one of my busted Optimas now after being run through with the TM and turbo when we hit the elk. Guess what? No acid all over everything like the flooded cell mess would have been!
It with the other slightly beat Optima still started the engine.
Optima is made in Mexico now. Some failures are because a very discharged battery will not take a charge from a battery charger due to the charger shutting off. You have to put a good battery in parallel to get it to charge. Many junk pile Optimas have been recovered like this...
