Turbo Squeak

I just realized from your last post its only on start up right? Then yes it very well could be the starter hanging up.

Yeah it lasts about 3-5 seconds and it is coming from the passenger side of the engine.

The intake rubber will be coming out this afternoon to rule out the turbo (I hope).

Disconnect the pink IP wire and spin the engine and let off the starter. Any starter spin down noise will be clear. 3-5 seconds is normal for the starter to spin down.

As long as it works don’t fix it. Otherwise you can spend around $300.00 for a new starter. My old starter rattled and zoomed down when it kicked out. It worked fine until I melted it down starting my engine with a busted piston and bad glows.

If its the starter, like you said, I'm not worried. I just want to know its nothing major. I have put 15,000 miles on it w/o any problems fom the squeak but now I'm just curious.

So basically the unpluggin the IP leaves just the starter kicking in?

I pulled the intake and checked the turbo.

NO PLAY AT ALL! And pretty clean for having 242,000 miles. Only maybe 1/16 of wear on the edge of the blades.

Unlpluged the IP and the squeak was still there as always. I think my starter os the culprit. :rolleyes5: Guess I'll just live with it.

prevents engine from getting fuel to start. Less noise, by engine not running, to drown out the starter winding down.
