hy guys i own a 1999 dually 6.5 td its a vacum turbo can someone tell me whats involved in these turbo kits from heath i know it changes it to mechanical but how do you controll it could i have more details how it controls the waste gate and how does the boost guage read what are mi limits thanks

In stock setup, the PCM controls the wastegate with a vacuum setup, opening or closing it via the vacuum canister in wich vacuum is inducted via the vacuum solenoid (the one with green dot on the bank of 3 solenoids).
In heath setup, the wastegate is controled via a spring. You can adjust boost by reducing or increasing the length of the spring. The shorter it is, the later the wastegate will open, and the more boost you'll get.
Your boost gauge will read the same in both case, your limits stay the same.IIRC boost with stock PCM is about 10-12PSI before defueling...

The spring holds the waste gate closed, when exhaust backpressure becomes great from burning more fuel the force from the pressure will open the waste gate to allow some of that pressure to "vent" without going past turbine. Like said, shorter or tighter spring will hold the gate closed longer so all the exhaust pressure goes through the turbo.

I have been running up to 17psi boost on a GM4, sustained for a minute or so, without issue. But thats with the vacuum setup which will also regulate it lower at cruise. So for manual setup you want to be around 15psi max, so when youre cruising its not more than 5psi. For economy you want to be under 5 psi boost at your cruising of 65-70mph flat land.

Really, I always have just the opposite. I end up spending 30 minutes + on the phone with him. That was always my reason for dealing with him. Good customer service. He actually called me out of the blue about my cooling issues for an update.

wy i am asking i pulled my travel trailer last weekend witch weights aprox. 7000lbs in 30degrees weather with no problems i am just triyng to improve towing power so if undestand this correctly i really cant improve my boost or shoud not as my max should be 5 psi at cruise i was towing in od at about 60mph what would be the advantage of this kit and where is the proper place to read your boost i guess the proper way is to install guage first to see if i am holding 5psi of boost is this correct than you

Improved reliability over vac system, as those tend to fail when you need them most, more power through sustained boost control, vs in boost-out of boost, underfuel/overfuel control the GM program puts you in.

Before commenting further with recommendations, go to user CP and update your signature line with current vehicle configuration info.

when towing, your boost might be higher in any scenario. Definately need a gauge. Should be your first mod, and not to use a manual wastegate actuator until you have one. Otherwise if you have a scanner you could read the boost amount from the MAP sensor.

i tried to edit signature hope it worked if not its a 1999 chev silvarado 4x4 4 door 6.5td with 4:10 rear 130km

I know you have other cars and trucks, my suggestion is just to put the one you are asking question for. All the people here just need to glance over to see what mods you have or not. That way we can give you better suggestions.

I don't have it yet, but the TM will help holding the boost steady, more steady than the vacuum because the ECM (computer) that controls it was not programmed for towing so to speak.

And it will give you more of it, and lower your EGT's (Exhaust Gas Temps) by at least a few hundred degrees.

Of course, you'll never know it if you don't get gauges. Need gauges EGT and Boost for the safety of your engine. I know it stinks making the wifes ride way better than yours, but it is what it is :)
