I`m looking to upgrade the turbo on my 1998 c-3500 cc/srw. I`ve found a hx-40w and a BANKS sidewinder from a 7.3 ford. I know the banks were used on the 6.2. Wondering how hard it is to convert to either of these.

True hx 40 is the bigger the mounts and the banks should be a t3 and will bolt on but the down pipe could be a chore on both

You are fabricating the downpipe unless you can find one for either turbo. You have to mod the battery post and re-do the entire intake to the air filter for the HX40II.

The easiest install is the A team Turbo kit sold by vendors on here. It includes EVERYTHING you need except 4 clamps. See pics from 1995 below:

ATT is the easiest/best way to go, just not the friendliest on the wallet.

When you sit down and add up all the pieces to put on an EBAY turbo, and then also figure you don't know what your buying in one of there chinese knock offs, the ATT isn't such a bad deal IMHO. If you figure $325 for the Ebay turbo, and another $150 for the exhaust hookup(don't remember what the adapter actually cost, and figure in modifying your air intake, plus add in some of what your time costs, you could easily be spending close to a grand for the cheaper route, and in the end it is still a pieced together kit. I'm not saying it is a bad kit, I'm just saying the price difference isn't as big as many make it out to be once you add it all up. And with what I have seen on those Ebay turbos, I wouldn't run one.

The ATT is under $800 IIRC, it's as close to a bolt on as you can get. Oh yeah, you will at least need a hack saw.

I could get the hx-40 for $400 ( supposed to be new ) but after paying for down pipe mod`s and there`s allways unexpected cost`s, I think it`s smarter to pass on it and save for the ATT. Thanks for the opinions.

You won't be disappointed I promise you that. PM me when you are ready.

Everyone seems to love the ATT turbo from what I've read so far. I'd get one for my truck, once its running again, but I happen to get a true HX-40 turbo for FREE!!! Came off of a good running 8.3 cummins that for some strange reason was heading to the scraper. Was an ex-fleet truck and they were upgrading all trucks to new. So will be worth my time to make it fit.
