Turbo Manager questions, help me beat a dead horse.

you can save some money off the duty and brokerage that UPS will charge if you were to have it shipped to http://www.hagensofblaine.com/index.php not to mention cheaper to ship it within the USA. You can then hop the ferry pick it up. have it installed stateside and then go to ellensburg for an ecm. Bill will also time your truck while there and make sure everything is good. just an idea

And it's a good one.

But as mentioned, the problem is just getting there pulling the trailer over even a small bump like the malahat.

I was hoping to buy all the stuff, whack it on to the truck in the driveway (including exhaust), drive it to Bills and get him to do a final dial in. Hopefully a little or no cost.

None of this would be any real problem if they hadn't sprung the move on me at the last minute.

If I would have had the 1-2 more years to tune the truck (that is why I dropped a grand on the tuning software :rolleyes5) as was the original plan, while getting all the bolt on goodies for it, I'd be laughing.

But now, time is short so cash must be the substitute for time......:rolleyes5:

All i can say is that the TM i build works super, maybe i made a good spring choice( i just dug it out the odds and ends pile of springs i have. There is a few more of the same in there)
At WOT and under load i can make 18 lbs boost, but it usually don't go over 15,my EGT's have never gone in the red yet even under sustained boost. But i try to stay out of the redline on the RPM's so that helps too.If the load was/is to heavy to keep the speed the tranny just kicks a gear down.
I still got stock ECM and haven't gotten a code yet.
I deleted the vac pump only last year when it froze up.
I still have the stock exhaust as well( Will be replaced by 3" down pipe and home build 3 1/2" straight piping,no muffler this week)

Personally i think it would work just as well with the waste gate welded shut, and just using your foot wisely.

The only time i hear the turbo wistling is at the onset of boost, just a couple lbs and when it spools down again around the same boost level

Another thought would be shipping it to the address I provided and I can pick it up and pay the duty on it. meet you at the ferry and you pay my out of pocket expenses. Where are you on the island.

Comox.

It's about an hour by the island highway to get to the Naniamo ferry.

I appreciate the offer, but I may just pay the extra bucks to get it to my door....brokerage is the only real dissatisfier in the price.

Fricken UPS.....

Not sure what you can do about the exhaust but IF you got the ATT then couldn't you just tune your own pcm to match since you have the software, getting rid of both the BH PCM and TM and maybe costing only an extra couple 100? I am sure you have thought of this too, but it was just an idea i had.

Keep the faith ... you might get lucky with that. UPS' shipping fees are OK, but the brokerage just might be anything... up to the price of the package. There is no rhyme nor reason with those buttwipes.

I could, but I'm running out of time.

And time is what I need to tune the bloody thing.....

well, I could suggest you get it sent to the place I mentioned, I pick it up bring it across the border, pay the duty on it. You paypal me the costs after I email you the receipt, I forward the stuff onto you COD. no UPS brokerage crap and again you save on shipping being within the USA. Ed

Very generous offer ed. I'll give it some thought.

Wow. Maybe someone should do some networking with our neighbors to the south, learn a little bit about alternative border crossing. If they can smuggle thousands of people into this country, it shouldn't be too hard to get a box full of exhaust pipe out of the country. Seriously though, that is awful. I paid under $300 for my aluminized Diamondeye 4 inch with muffler shipped to my door. I wouldn't mind stainless but aluminized has stood up just fine to these salty roads and it is a plowtruck. My Banks 3.5 aluminized system lasted 5 years, then the muffler rotted out. Everything else was still good so I put in a delete pipe and got another year or two out of it. I'm definitely going with another Diamondeye for my Sub, great price and great sound.
I did the vacuum delete too, piece of cake and I believe it was a 99.5 inch belt. Tight fit at first but stretched to fit just fine. I had a turbomaster on the stock turbo, had to do something after my vacuum solenoid failed for the second time. I was very happy with it compared to the stock system. I couldnt stand the constant boost fluctuation. Going to do one on the Sub too, since another ATT is not in the plans for this truck.
If EGTs are your biggest worry, I suspect the 4" exhaust will be the single biggest help there. If you're actually going to go through with a new tune and either a TM or ATT, you'll have nothing to worry about. I think that over the years as I added more and more mods to my truck, and doing them all at different times, I have to say that exhaust was the most bang for the buck, as far as noticeable, seat of the pants feel. Second was probably the turbo master.

BJ you ever look at muffler shop or 4x4 custom shop that does exhaust upgrades for older Fords, they had stainless 4" systems IIRC, that go in trash when going to 5" exhaust might be an inexpensive source of tubing to modify for yours.

I have never paid Duty on any USA made auto parts, I thought that was free trade deal? or maybe I have just had good luck

There is no duty, just the UPS rape(brokerage) fees.

Correct on that, they can however charge HST (tax) on anything over 50.00 if out of Canada less than 48 hours. The exemption increases over 48 hours and again after 7 days. Don't recall the exact $$$ amounts. On a 400.00 purchase I don't think they'll let that slide. Ed

In Alberta, it would only be GST (5% ... $20) ... Leo and I keep forgetting about HST.

FWIW I had lower egts with the stock vac system. As soon as I put a TM on my Dually and my old Tahoe, the egts went through the roof. I personally think chokin off the exhaust to build boost creats too much back pressure. Just my experience. I'm leaving my burb stock.
