Heck, years ago, vacuum from the fuel pump of the older cars was used to operate the windshield wipers. This system worked better than the system mentioned below.
Manifold vacuum was also used for to operate the wipers.
They would work great while cruising the flats, wipe to beat the band going down hill and come to a halt when climbing grade.
They had not yet engineered the vacuum canister to pack extra vacuum for the long up hill pulls.
Want to mess with someone, send them out to a parts store for a can of vacuum, call the parts store and tell them whats going on, to send them to another parts store and for each parts store to call ahead..
