Trying to get Ol' Blue running

check the marketplace. Member packers had the whole wiring harness from a 92 or 93

Short list for a standard trans conversion.
IP
IP lines
Water temp sensor in xover (cant remember name) for cold advance.
Throttle cable
Throttle pedal from gas truck
Am I missing anything?

With an auto you would need many more parts.

If it was an automatic then I would leave it alone.

Do I need a throttle cable and pedal from gas truck or just the pedal? 89-95 TBI parts I assume?

I found a new 4879 pump for a reasonable price.

Pedal from any 88 2000 gas truck.
Cable from a diesel.
You will also need the throttle bracket on the IP

I thought 96-00 trucks were fly by wire too? Not doubting you, I'm just curious.

Cable from a 92-93 6.5 TD only, or can I get one from any 6.2/6.5 88-93?

Also the truck doesn't have factory Cruise, is there any difference in the throttle cable/ bracket for a truck with Cruise? I will be adding Cruise later.

Thanks for all of the help guys! I hope to get this rolling soon, parts collecting will begin this week.

As far as I know all the gassers had a peddle with a cable.
Don't know why a cable from a 6.2 would'int work.
Throttle backet is same with or w/o cruise, but to add cruise you will need the addition bracket that bolt to the throttle bracket.

I'll keep an eye out for a cruise bracket. I am writing a shoping list for my father in-law (owns a salvage yard) as we speak along with first priorities.

just read this thread,

first off, congrats on resurrecting it! your truck follows that addage "real pickup trucks have three pedals, two sticks, and no spark plugs!"

Im sure from OK, she is fairly rust free, correct?

also, as far as pedals, from my boss' 88 BBC RCLB, to dad's 00 350/auto chassis cab, they all have throttle cables. throttle cables on GM gas trucks seemed to go till 03 (IIRC, 03 was the last year of a few traditional things, throttle cable being one, out-of tank, changeable fuel filters another)

lastly, I agree with dropping the oil, my boss always does it on dead tractors he buys, but he got lazy on a 5020, and she locked up idling in the yard. slimy filter, thick, black oil.

also, do you plan on rebuilding the truck completely yourself? (further embrace that sentimentiality, making yourself the one and only physician on the ol girls recovery! :) )

if you are intimidated about the 5spd, one source i recommend is www.quad4x4.com they have their own rebuild manual with pics, etc, and they carry many parts, and tools to get the job done.

good luck!

It isn't fully resurected yet, it still hasn't fired off. Needs a PCM but since I want DB2 I will skip that for now. How do you get to the PCM I would like to check the connections and wiring just incase a furry friend/enemy may have taken a snack.

Yes, It is rust free (besides the surface rust on the roof) but not all OK trucks are that way.

This will be my first pretty much full restore and build up. With the help of all the good folks here I hope this goes fairly smooth.

I will change the oil once I get some time and stop being lazy. I'm not in a hurry at the moment since I don't have enough parts to start it anyways.

Thanks for site suggestion. I have never rebuilt an engine or tranny, but I enjoy rebuilding farm equipment that breaks down so I am confident I can handle it if I take my time and stay organized.

What batteries are good? Ol' Blues batteries match but are old and won't hold a charge. It uses both top post and side post connections.

"real pickup trucks have three pedals, two sticks, and no spark plugs!" ):h This is awesome!

did I miss something how did you determine it was pcm?

There is no CEL or Glow Plug light at start up. I checked and there is not power to the glow plugs and no fuel to the injectors.

I forgot to check the lift pump while I had the jumper cables hooked up.:mad2:

If you have any more ideas on what to check feel free to let me know.

I wouldn't condem the pcm just yet. With dead batteries ,even a jump may not be enough to get 12+ volts to the ecm. Did you check ALL the fuses with a ohm meter? Have you checked voltage going into the ecm from all supply circuits? If the engine ran when it was parked, chances`are that it is a connection problem. ECMs don't die from lack of use.The ignition switch is always suspect in a 95+. How old are the battery cables?[don't have to look bad to be bad]

I thought that somewhere on this forum, someone mentioned that some trucks wont cycle the glows until the next start after batts are hooked up (or in your case, charged up from dead), might have been MGW.. I dont remember.....

but Im sure any AGM ( I think acid glass mat, IIRC( battery will do fine. I am getting ready to buy some optimas for my 91 diesel. if your budget will allow, I think most agree that Oddysey (spelling?) is one of the best. both are available in dual post configuration.

I dont mind side terminal, especially with the common trick here on the forum of using a bolt bottomed out in the side post, and a nut on that bolt to squeeze the terminals to it.

IMHO, the bolt mod on a set of dual post batts is the best, since it has about the best set up side post connection, and then free top posts for jumping farm equipment, other rigs, etc.

I would say exide orbitals, or Optimas, match set, fully charged, then try to fire her off on WD 40, run, then shut down and try for a restart to see if that 2nd start theory on the glows holds true.

good luck!

Cheap batteries for me right now. It is going to be a slow project for now since I don't have much money at all.

What should the OHM meter read? I have never used one.

What/where are the lines going to the ECM?
I would like to know how to get to the PCM and check the connections and cords for mice damage.

Battery cables don't look bad but I have no idea how old they are. After the hooking the jumpers up for an hour it cranked nicely, not full speed but close!

Its a 94 so I guess ignition isn't the culprit.
