Truck Just Wont Start

Some time back, around two years maybe, I started a thread called "Here's why you check your battery cables". Thinking this would be a good thread for BigBearZach, as think I had pics in it also, I tried to find it, but couldn't.

For those who are better at computers than I am can somebody find it? I tried advanced search, but couldn't find it.

Anyway, the upshot is that the battery cables can be badly corroded inside the insulating covering and it is not easy to see. The stock cables have a red rubber cover completely surrounding the brass mounting plate. This rubber covering can create problems with getting good contact between the battery post and the cable. Completely remove the outer end portion of this covering and wirebrush the contact surface of the cable end so you can insure the battery cable is making good contact with the battery.

I haven't been keeping up very well the past two days as I've been spending a lot of time working on our 88 Crown Vic, blown head gasket. I must say I'd much rather work on the 6.5 as there is sooo much garbage all, over the top of that 302 to take off before you can even see the heads. I finally got the heads off and down to the machinist this afternoon, and my back is telling me all about what I shouldn't have been doing.

I must have done the same thing you did Tim. Anyway, thanks to all for all the tips on how to find threads on here. Pepp, you know the saying "you can't teach old dogs new tricks"? Well I can say that saying is not fully correct. It should be "it's often very hard to teach old dogs new tricks". This old dog may struggle with computer ways, but I am SLOWWwwly learning. Now, if I can just remember how.

jrsavoie, the best thing to help a guy get used to looking at all sections of a forum is to use the new posts button to the right of my threads button. It will show many pages of new posts, wheter it be new posts to a new thread, or new posts to an old thread. helps a guy explore more!

to the op, glad to hear you got it fixed! also, what brand of batteries did you use? That has a bearing on things, ubt at that new, unless defective, batteries wouldnt be the issue.

I just kicked a mis matched set of Continental batteries to the curb pre trip coming back from Idaho one was junk and pulling the other down one was an 09 and one was a 12. stole a set of interstates out of the 95 GMC that was wintering in ID. will be getting a set of AC delco batteries for both of them now and putting the interstates in a project pickup. I can locally can get some 78DTPG (the gold ones, highest grade) 850 CCA for 103 bucks apiece.
